High Back Bucket Seats and Seat Brackets

Seriously ... great grab on the seat tracks! Hard stuff to find! They are even in nice shape. I had to treat mine with Rust Bullet.

Those seat frames are likely going to work OK for you too. 71-73 Mustang and Cougar seats are the same frames as(edit ... 71-72) Mav Grabber highbacks, and looking at your pictures, the overall shape on yours looks close. The back panels are the same as mine too, with the seat release offset to each side.

Nobody has mentioned it, but those seats have been recovered in a style close to what would have come on them, except in cloth.

Worse case scenario ... you strip all that junk off of the seat frames and find out they are different than a Grabber frame ... you still did great getting a good set of seat tracks. Mustang seat frames aren't that hard to get. If you paid less than $150, you are ahead of the game ... nice find!

 

What year did the buckets come out of? If it was a catalytic car, the inside passenger track will be too short. You will have to lengthen it to make it work.

That seat track picture in #13 is the passenger seat ... riser blocks on the inboard side ... he ought to be fine.

 

The seats came out of a 73 Comet. I was excited that I finally found a Maverick/Comet with high back buckets in a pull yard. I was a little disapointed when I got them home and did a little more research about the seats and finding out that the seats where not the prized 71 -72 seats. I look in the Autokrafter catalog and the replacement seat foam says 71 - 73. I guess I should find out here before thinking a catalog was right. I am happy that I dod find the seat tracks. Can you replace the studs in the tracks? They look like they came out fairly easy and be replaced but don't know if that is truely possible.

 

I've been thinking, and I think it's the frame that's the same as 71-73, but the springs are encased in the foam. I'll go out to the garage a little later, and snap a few pic's. If not I have another buckets I'll strip apart.
Either way, the seat tracks are the important part, Mustang buckets are easy to find.

 

You shouldn't be dissapointed. Maverick/Comet Highback buckets are very hard to find. I have a set from a 73 Grabber that I will re-do one day to go in my car. I would think if you get 71-73 Mustang foam and upholstery they would look just like 71/72 highback buckets.

 

There was a article in Mustang Monthly last year about re-covering a set of seats out of a 73 Mustang, and that's what got me thinking about the Maverick seats, and when I pulled them apart, they looked nothing like the Mustang ones, other than the frames. The Maverick ones had the springs right in the foam, so once the foam is pealed off, they still didn't look like the Mustang springs, or I'm sure it would work. I'd much rather have the 71-72 style seats any day. (I've been cleaning my pool all day, or I'd have posted some pic's of them by now)

 

I have found these seats. The guy that has them says there from a 72 mustang. Do they look correct?

 

I was out pulling parts again this weekend and found another yard just alittle bit north of Denver, he has a red 73 Comet GT and it has a set of high back bucket seats in it and it also has a couple good fenders. he wants $100.00 each for the fenders and $60.00 each for the seats. He also has another Maverick with at least one good left fender on it. I would have picked them up but I do not have any more room in my truck (it is full of parts that I have aquired since being here). If they told me to go home tomorrow I would have to leave my clothes behind. Give me a call tomorrow and I will give you the name and number, I left it in the truck. He also has a really nice looking sport steering wheel in a granada but you have to buy the colume to get it.

The seats and seat tracks that I purchased above came out of that Red 73 Comet. I found two good fenders and they are sitting in my garage. I am going to wait on the door till after media blasting. I believe that the holes I seen inside the door are from the original trim molding and not body work. I figure they replaced the door with this one when it was in an accident. It is definately not the original door. I believe that I have aquired a good lower valance that should arrive this week. So as for body parts I should be good except for a straight and rust free grabber hood. I know we have talked about that and I am waiting on purchasing a CF hood till I hear from the people we talked about. I thought about traveling up to Pueblo to a yard up there to see if they have anything good but that is a 2 hour drive up. I just wanted confirmation that the seats that are pictured are the correct high back bucket seats for a 71-72 maverick. I was told they came out of a 72 Mustang.
