I belong to another vehicle forum where one of the vendors makes hood strut kits to do away with the hood prop rod. I have one of his kits and I like it very much. I have contacted him to see if he would be interested in making a kit for our cars. He replied: Here is a thread that shows the product http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=101382 How many would be interested in a kit like this? Also is anyone in the Seattle area willing to help with a test car?
I would be interested in a set. I've had several sets of Redline Tuning hood struts on some of my Mustangs over the years. They were always so much nicer than the prop rods!
would we want the hood opening taller than the prop rod because of the hood latch? I know my head would...
not me Id rather buy billit hinges they do look like a very good alternative to the ol prop rod though
Unfortunately, Eddie Motorsports which manufactures Billet Hood Hinges, do not make them for our Mav/Comet, I have been bugging them for a few years to see about producing them, but still no luck.......Only other company that manufactures our billet hood hinges is in Brazil and he charges over $1200US for a set David
if i was going to change the hood hinges, i would create something like what is on the mercedes, so the hood sits straight up when working...
Thats great, the main problem is the hinges on the Mavs move in two different directions when opening and closing so you cant compare newer cars to ours. I have installed a few sets of struts on a few different mavericks and they work pretty good, plus they get the hood "up" in the front so you dont whack your head on that dreaded hood latch.
If Eddie motorsports would make a set of hinges like dyent said that would be the best way. I've installed a set of them on my Buddy's 69 mustang and they are awesome ,look good and work great really smooth.
Maybe if enough members contact Eddie's about billet hood hinges for our Mav/Comets, they might see that there is enough interest to produce a set. Kind of like the special adjustable sway bar that Addco did for our members? David
