Boss mav Thanks alot for doing this for us. It will help ALOT when I get ready to make the swap. My 6208`s are not coated ,so I plan to do all of the mods ,and test fitting until I`ve got it right.... THEN I`ll send my headers off to be coated
I`ve seen a spin on oil filter adapter that makes the filter sit at a 90degree angle. Thats what we need! You just bolt it to the block werethe oil filter goes...then screw on the flter ! you can adjust the adapter (how its "clocked" )as needed . Of coarse we would make the filter point towards the front of the engine bay. Summit has them . . Summit part # FMS-M-6880-50 (Fits all engines with FL1 A filter) $51.88 CLick on the part number when you get there for a picture of it. http://store.summitracing.com/defau...&searchtype=both&part=FMS-M-6880-A50&x=17&y=4
....or you can use an FL400S motorcraft, which is a smaller diameter and might give better clearance. I used that FMS clockable adapter, nice piece....but not cheap. The cheap one is the one that came on late-70's vans with 460's. They also position the filter at a different angle so it can sit at ANY angle, even upside down. I like those ones better, though getting the screw-in adapter out of the block is a PITA when the motor is in the van. It uses a 1 1/8" socket, with the end ground flat so the actual socket hex is not recessed. That little adapter is not very thick and rounds easily if the hex is recessed too far inside the socket. Those Van filter adapters are worth Gold when it comes to header/chassis clearance. They work wonders, and best of all...they've already got 2 ports drilled/tapped/plugged for oil pressure take off (for junkyard turbo oil feed!)
Thanks for the info on the mounting adapter, I'll have to order one. I've got a few more pictures to come sometime today and I'll try and list all the things you need to do in order. Bossmav
bossmav, IF a reputable, known fabricator and seller of old Ford parts was to build headers (as big as 1 3/4 in. tubes) for Mavericks converted to 351's, what would need to be different about the Hooker 6208"s? I ask because I've talked with just such a vendor and he has sold a set to someone with a 351W Mav. He knew the customer had to cut shock towers, but he never heard from the customer as to whether or not other mods to the car or to the headers had to be made. I believe if a dozen or so would be interested, this vendor would go into production. I also believe that if a set of headers could be made where the only modification had to be shock towers, more Mav owners would make the conversion. After your response, I'm going to post a thread in the Main Forum to get a feel for interest. Thanks,
Some learn from books... Some learn from the experience of others... Some have to pee on the electric fence themselves. I prefer no. 2. Hope bossmav responds to my last question....
