jumping into an old thread i know, but just ran into this issue. bought the hookers 6901-1HKR because many told that it fits great. but now test fitting on my project the collecter sits very low and mexican streets have a bump before every crossing and some more in between. so the collector that low will hit every bump for sure. what can be a solution???? cutting the headers? higher engine mounts? other headers? (will cost me alot, because difficult to sell this headers and buy new ones...) any help appreciated!!!
I ended up with a taller and wider front tire to help my long-tubes clear bumps. I started with 175/60-r15 and hit everything. Then bought a set of 195/60-r15 and still hit on speed bumps. I eventually ended up with 215/60-r15 and the front end looks good with a full wheel-well, and I never hit anything afterwards.
i already have 225/45/17 all 4 tires... and changing wheels is no option... does yours look as low also? tody sent a pic of his headers and they sit perfectly where i want to have them. he thought my engine is mounted too low, need to check that...
Here is what mine looked like (now have shorties to clear a Rod and Custom front clip) But yes, looks like they hung about to the same place, compared to the bottom of the transmission. Even if I had kept the long tubes, I would have gotten rid of the 3-bolt flange connectors. They hit the ground, and if they were not there, I would have had almost an extra inch clearance. This picture is with the 195/60-r15 tires. Newer tires are a touch wider and taller.
Just ran our tire numbers through a calculator, and yours and mine are exactly the same height. So no difference there.
Strange, the pipes coming off my 6901's fit right up into the curves of the crossmember. Those look like they're hanging about 2"+ lower than mine. Are you using the stock frame and motor mounts?
Exhaust coatings keep the heat within the tube and don't let it heat the underhood air. You will see a performance difference with coated and uncoated because the coated headers will lead to a cooler, thus denser, air under the hood. It is not snake oil. It's a very solid answer to cooler underhood air, thus performance. You have a misconception that the headers are radiators to release heat and draw it from the engine, that is not true. Cast manifolds also release heat, they just don't sit in as large an area and don't come in close contact to underhood items like starters. The coating helps protect the starter, wiring and paint, too. it's usually the collector flange that hits first, cut it off and go to a band type clamp to hook the header collector to the exhaust system. despite the differences in trans.. those headers look to be hanging a bit lower than scoop's. Look at the trans tunnels cross bracing as a reference point for comparison.
I wonder if the pinion angle is way off ? I think the t-5 should be closer to the top of the trans tunnel... And that cross member looks a little to deep... If the engine and trans are angled to low, the headers will hang low to...
i will check the the angle! what should it be? i have something like 3° in mind, correct?? i agree, if the angle is off, the headers will be inclined and lower as well, but always in relation to the trans. mine seem to be low in relation to the trans, no matter what angle it has or if all the engine and trans is to low or at wrong angle. i wrote to hookers headers and they told the same to check the engine mounts. but i still stink the headers are too long... because 2" difference in just motor mounts seems too much to me.
