How to hack up your shock towers...

    What do folks think about making a nice round hole and installing a rubber grommet that will stay put until greasing?

    Would something like that offend a potential Maverick buyer/connesoer (sp)?
    What do you (as in anyone reading this) do to access those grease fittings?
    90* fittings?

    Three 71 Maverick Grabbers, a 72 302 Sprint, a 73 LDO 2door parts car, a 76 silver v8 Stallion.
    That's exactly what I did on one of my cars...looks factory. It's much easier to do it though if the engine is out so you can get up in there on the back ones.

    when I redid my mustang I put in 90* fittings. they are easy to grease now. As a matter of fact I think the front end kit(pst) sent them in the kit.

    I seem to remember seeing special grease fittings made for this application. They were 90 degree elbows and the arm that you attach the grease gun to was extra long (like 1 or maybe 1 1/2 inches). That way you could clock them to a position that could be reached from inside the wheelwell. They would probably have to be installed on the A-arm before it was bolted to the car.

    I saw these so long ago, it is impossible for me to say where now. It may have been some Mustang supply place.

    I also used to sell hardware supplies and it may have been in a catalog similar to what you might be able to find at a Grainger store.

    Like most other things now days, It would require a little effort, and possibly some thought.

    these are Auto Krafter...part # 610-041...also mustang parts places have these. the kit comes with a tool to install them.
    they can be installed with everything assy.(y)

    I also have nice round holes with rubber plugs. Looks factory.

    I wish somebody would have told me to grease the back ones BEFORE I put the motor in. Now I need to buy a long grease hose to reach them.

    I've seen many a Maverick and Mustang were someone hacked open holes to get to the grease fittings. Not one of FORD's better design ideas. The early Mustangs and the Mavericks were basicly built to be throw away cars, so why would anyone need to grease the front end? :rolleyes: DUH! Thank goodness the towers in our Mavericks excaped the dreaded pry bars and large screw drivers being pounded on by equally large hammers.
