Well over the past 25 years I've learned not to underestimate these little cars as have a few big block boys way back. I'm going to guess at 11.90

Just a question, why are you so adverse to wearing a jacket/suit. Do you wear a helmet?

I was thinking that I would buy a helmet before I go to the track next.

I am just not a serious racer. I want to have fun, and when it get to where I need a roll cage, suit, funny little elf shoes, etc, it will start to feel more like "work" to me.

With any luck, I will get kicked off the track after the first run due to not having enough safety equipment, then I can go back to just having fun with my loud old car.

Alot of tracks if they run any tech wont let you run that bottle in the car without a jacket.

In the car at all, or just in the back seat?

Hmmm. Gonna have to ask around on that.

Getting to be a major hassle, this nitrous installation.

Alot of tracks around dont do any tech but do have some basic stuff they inforce. Its really up to where you go but likely you will see some tech. If not it wont matter a bit. I myself used to race around the south at outlaw tracks with no tech ever. Now im in the midwest and i cant run till i spend a couple hundred on a jacket and new belts and helmet.

My 1/8th track has a tech guy, but he is pretty cool. Let me race last time in shorts, t-shirt, and sandals, and asked that I wear pants and shoes next time.

Needed a puke container first time, he let me duct tape a soda bottle to the radiator support.

Then when I moved my battery to the trunk, he told me I needed a kill switch, but let me race that day.

Now, I am right back where I started. Need a puke can, and battery in trunk is not secured, at the least. The nitrous may open another can of worms (sorry Frank, for using your terminology, at least I gave you credit for it.)

find someone to borrow the jacket from. you should be able to borrow a helmet also. the pants rule is new this year so if you cant find pants to borrow then just say you didnt know. sounds like your tech guy is very lenient and will let you run. the way the rule is writen is that any car with an aftermarket supcharger, turbo, or nitrous system has to have a fire jacket, fire pants or fire suit.

    (grumble grumble moan...)

This is starting to not be fun anymore.

If I am not making money on this car, I don't want to spend any more than I need to to keep having fun.

And racing, to me, is work. I just want to go fast. I don't want to have to worry about "If I don't win, I won't come out ahead financially"

    Scooper,

Having fun is one thing...................wanting to win is another, and going fast is yet another. If you want to do all three.....hope you have $$$$$$
    to do it.
Having fun sounds like what you want to do the most, so...............go out and buy a used suit and helmet..............If you want to win you are going to have to spend $$$$, and if you want to go fast (fast can be 12sec/11/10/9/8) but if you want to go faster than 12sec you will have to spend $$$$$ to get there. I think once you get into the 11's or for sure the 10's you will have to have an SFI approved bellhousing and either trans blanket or steel shield.
So.....................it comes down to how much do you want to spend to go fast? That is totally up to you, but drag racing is not cheap, never has been and never will be.

Case in point. I spent 10k for the Mav............race ready.....almost!
I just spent $900 for new slicks and front race tires. I will spend another $200 replacing the fuel cell, intake gasket, and 7qts of Mobil 1 oil. Now 118 race gas is 12.50/gal............$61 plus whatever it costs to get through the gate.................Plus udating my window net @$60 and having my 5 point harness recert'd for another $80. And then at the end of this season I will probably tear the trans and motor down for a refresh
which could be $$$ or $$$$.

    But................I AM HAVING FUN.

So, my advise would be sell the NO's and just run on the motor, or maybe put a little more stout cam in it and look for a used set of aluminum heads.
Get the car so is consistantly in the low 12's and leave it at that, but if you want to go faster.....................spend more $$$$$$

    IMHO

All I want is the fun and fast, not win.

Yeah, sounds great, but my brother spent $300 on a nitrous kit for me, and curious as I am, I wanna try it out.

I may skip the track completely, since I am not a "racer". I may just mess with it on the street out on country roads, maybe hit the dyno to see where i am, then remove it. Or leave it for looks.

    Scooper,

Having fun and going fast is where I am right now! Winning is not important...................................................right now.
I am sure the money I spent will get me into the 10.5's.................if I want to go faster (as the car is capable of high 9's) then I will need to spend more money.........................from your side, if you don't want to upgrade your car/suit/helmet................by all means put the NO's in and
tune it on the dyno to see what you can get..............then make the decission which way to go.

    IMHO
