That is sooo great. Looks like a ton of fun. The car looks awesome. Can't wait to hear how it does with your new engine. How long before you will be able to race it?
Paraphrasing an old Hank Williams' song (I'm in the Jailhouse Now)..... "He's in the po house now. He's in the po house now."
Rick; good luck with the new car! It is beautiful, and I hope to see it at the FFW next year. Take care, and have a great holiday!
Very nice, that thing should be ALOT of fun with that motor!! It always makes me happy to see a nice Maverick drag car that will be/is powered by a nice FORD powerplant!! AWESOME!!!!!
Terry's dead on Dennis...I'm in the poor house now. The whole purpose behind building the engine was to put it in a car like this, just not this soon, I was able to buy it for about a third of what it would cost to build from scratch. There is a sad part of the history of this car. The garage you see me pulling it out of is where the car has sat for the last 10 years on jackstands under a cover. The owner and his Father built the car together and it ran out of Mooresville NC, One evening he and his Father were headed to Rockingham to run, the backroads in this area of NC are treacherous at best particurlarly when pulling another car. He lost control of it coming down a hill, the accident was terrible, his Father was killed and he was paralyzed from the waist down. The car sustained some minimal damage to the front emd that some friends of his repaired while he was recovering in the hospital, but the car never saw the track again. Needless to say it was a rather emotional time for him yesterday, he asked if I was gonna keep the "Plum Crazy" name. I told him I would for the first year and have a video of the car made and sent to him. So, what I want to do is bring the car back to Mooresville some time this year or early next and enlist Stephens help in having a video made of it for him. As Paul Harvey would say, now you know the rest of the story.
wow, that's a tearjerker if i ever heard one. hate to hear stories like that. at least, i'm sure he's getting some satisfaction of knowing it'll be in good hands.
Hey Rick congrats on the purchase. BTW, I was wondering can you tell me how much a trailer like that runs? im not buying one just wondering.
It is Don, but it also makes you acutely aware of how fragile life is, my youngest daughter Katie went with me yesterday and I missed the turnoff to the main highway coming back. I found out first hand how narrow and winding the roads up there are. To say I was overly cautious would be an understatement. Mav 73 the trailer cost out the door was around 2200 that includes wiring the truck for the electric brakes. Here's the last of the pics...these are after we got it home. if anyone has any ??? feel free to ask...the car should pull to the 5.7-5.9 sec range in the 1/8th without alot of tweaking and tuning, my goal is to get it into the low 5's N/A
nice! i can see where you saying it was much cheaper to buy it this way instead of build one yourself. my dad an i always talked about buying a chassis and then working it from there.. u can save alot! anways a much better home for the motor! let us know on your progress! btw what wheels are those? monoques?
