I once black primered mine and it looked sweet, but i'm paying for it now with all the overspray I did, and removing it from the chrome and stuff SUCKS. I got in a big hurry when I was younger to look cool and i'm paying the price now. Be glad you haven't gone as far as I have. It'll be a while for me...

I included the last pic cause it is part of my project now...:D

I'm stuck, I started a project that won't let my car run until its finished.

I know what yer sayin bud, I've been there in the past and patch it to keep it running. Now, I'm to the point that if I don't fix it right, it'll be a rustbucket in 6 months, so I tore it to pieces and started over.

Mine is not quite ready for paint. I have two dents in a door and rear fender, those big areas bumped in, not a sharp metal bending dent.

Other than that, fill in those trim holes and the antenna hole, then knock down the paint until I hit primer or steel, and smooth it all out. THEN ready for paint.

Frank, your car looks GREAT in that picture. You can tell that all the parts are perfectly flat and smooth. It almost looks like you just photoshopped some colors onto a finished car.

Luckily, there is no exposed metal or anything "incomplete" on my car that will cause rust or other damage if I don't complete it soon. It is perfectly driveable as is, just really ugly. I always try to keep this car driveable, just in case I need to get it out of the garage for repairs on my other cars (or if I need to use it as a "rental car"). I always (except for this time) plan to keep it in non-roadworthy shape for less than a week.

How much extra work would it take to take off a coat of primer if I was to shoot a single color of primer over the entire car?

I have the paint gun, I might do a solid black or grey primer over the existing paint, if it won't become a total pain when it comes time to paint...just to make it look decent for the next year or two.

That is what I am thinking...at least it will be all one color (on the outside, inside and engine bay will stay stock) for the time being until I can do a real paint job.

Hey Scooper, I think that the way your Mav stands right now adds character! I have really enjoyed checking out your site for a lil' over a month now. As to your original post, don't feel bad, I have been working my Mavs for over three years now. I have to drive 323 miles to work on mine (due to no garage in my condo here in San Diego). Sometimes when I'm driving I think about just getting home and putting it together just to drive it around, but that would blow my weekend, so I just keep waiting. I'm finally at the point of being able to take it out and I can't wait. Hopefully be road ready by the end of the year, but gas prices make driving all those miles just to turn wrenches unbearable! But I'm stubborn and I love my Mav! Keep up the great work, and I'm looking forward to seeing August's mods on your site!(y)

I've been driving my hotrod for 20 years and it's never been or gonna be finished. Just as ya fix one thing an other thing breaks. Besides, finished is overrated! Driving is where it's at!

I put them back together so I can take pictures to put on the computer at work. That way it will keep me motivated to finish it. I feel like some of the parts should have velcro they have been on and off so much :D
