take everything off the roof and check it for rust. if your good at metal fabbing that may be a decent start for max 700. as for the hood, Mav Mans CF or a new flat hood with GT scoop.
man !! its going to take some big money and time to get it correct !! BUT!! if you go slow and steady, you could make it happen !! triple check for original eng./transmition !! good luck !!
Time is the part that I'm sweating on the car. I think I'd rather almost buy a turn key one that's done, or at least somthing minimal to make my own. I'm almost certain he won't take what I'm asking, but I'll offer anyway.
I worked on mine for 6 years. That's cause I needed to drive it. I only put it down for 2 months max, at a time. It already had an excellent interior, no rust, facory 302, C-4 floor shift, turn key ($500 car). I just took my time, and made it a restomod. I'm excited with the outcome. Good luck on your project.....It will be well worth it. The looks & thumbs up, make it worth while.
I agree. Last summer at every stop light I was at in my last Mustang was, "Man that sounds good" or "Whacha got in that?" When my reply was "Just a 306" they either laughed, or commented "That's IT!?" I plan on going with a similar set up as that car was, but in the looks of a Mav or Comet. I'm sure it will be a BLAST.
I have never heard "that's it" about a 302 in my mav...more like "A 302 FITS in there?!!?" Then I open the hood and show them "Just BARELY!!!" It is the take off from the light that really impresses... Yeah, the 302 may not be the biggest motor in the world, but it is a major powerhouse for a "tiny" 2600lb car.
My 85 'Stang weighed right at 3100lbs with me in it. I bested a 12.06 on the motor, and I never got a full bottle run in, but I coasted to a 10.89 @ 113mph haha. She would scoot.
