    I'm thinking...wrong...balancer and flywheel...if the motor is a '73 302.

Ditto^^^... You need a 28oz balancer and fly wheel....Also, you will need clutch disc/pressure plate for the 28oz flywheel since the fox mustang stuff is metric and wont mount correctly to the 28oz flywheel.

you need a .028 oz balancer and flywheel

keep running it with .050 oz stuff and you will be putting beaings and a new crank in it thats a good way to junk a motor

Yep, that's your problem. Small block Fords changed to 50 oz imbalance around 1981, earlier 302s were 28 oz imbalance. You can buy a 28 oz weight for the PP damper for about $15. Got mine at a local speed shop. CenterForce makes a diaphram clutch with a special release bearing that works on a old patterned flywheel. Or you can drill/tap new pressure plate mounting holes in the flywheel. I've done it both ways.
    What bellhousing are you using?

What about a late model flywheel off a 351 truck engine? Would it accept the Mustang clutch?

I think the fly and belhousing are larger on trucks so it wouldn't match up.
