The old drag racing addiction. I want 13's. Soon it'll be 12's. Later on it'll be 11's...next thing you know, you're going 8.50 and you STILL want to go faster. Trust me....if you're a drag racer, sooner or later you will want to go faster! I still remember shaking like a leaf when I went 10.96 (1000' track) and thought I was flying. Jeez, now I hop in the Mustang and go 9 flat...and it's boring. LOL.
i got used to my cars times, but have never gotten bored with 10.00 at 137. still like that kick when you let go the button & you're gone. never really wanted to go super fast, either. took me 40 years to end up with a car in the high 9s & low 10s. ive gone faster in friends cars, but never made me feel i had to go faster. guess im more into a combination of driving the car & racing. especially enjoy it when some guy in an 8 sec car blows by me 10 feet after the finish line. you dont have to be the fasted to win. just make fewer mistakes.
i just like to be one of the faster cars in the class. currently run 12.00 at firebird and that's the sportsman limit. if i move to the pro class i'll bump it up to run in the 10's. cosistency is the most important thing.
I agree. In our class we have cars that dial 7 flat to 11 flat (1000')...and some of them routinely run 150+ mph. Being in a 11 second car isn't exactly where you want to be at the far end of the track. Judging the distance between the car & finish line is tough when the opponent is running 150 mph and you're going just under 100. Mine don't run 150, but at 126 it's plenty fast enough. I just let the faster guys take themselves out and hope I can run someone either slower or just about the same ET/mph. To me it's just easier to run someone down....course that's just me. Everyone has their own way of doing things.
hey don, back here in div 1, the class 2 limit is 9.00, just to make life more interesting. unless they changed it again this year.
our classes out here are sportsman; 12.00 and slower, no electronics, tranny brakes ok, must have mufflers---pro; 7.50-13.99, tranny brake ok, no mufflers needed---super pro; 7.50-11.99, electronics ok. i said 10's for pro so i don't have to get licensed and have to add all the other safety stuff.
I have been at both ends....1/8th mile running 7.70's. 1/8th mile running 6.50's. I am not sure (to me) if its easier to run them down, definitely more fun being the chaser as opposed to the chasie Plus like you mentioned....going through the traps at 84 mph when your racing a car doing 130 is a little nerve-racking But I was more consistant/deadly on the tree when the car ran 7.70's.
I sure am Rick. Funny you should ask. I've been talking to a few folks, and I'm going to order a mini-spool tomorrow. Was going to order it today but I want to order a couple other things with it to spread the handling fee around a little.
