AFAIK there were no mods to the towers on Brian's 351 Boss Maverick... http://mmb.maverick.to/media/71-maverick-351-cleveland.11017/
There was no "76" Boss 302. If it don't have Cleveland style heads on it, it's not a Boss 302. If it doesn't have screw in core plugs, it ain't a Boss 302. I'd make sure those two features are present before telling anyone it's a Boss 302. That'll save you a lot of laughs (aimed at you) down the road.
Very true.. Boss 302(290Hp) were avail in '69 & '70 ONLY, NEVER in any other year... In '75/'77 wasn't anything available but asthmatic 129Hp Windsor 302...
Like I said. I'm just going off of what I was told. I haven't seen the motor yet. If it happens to be a boss. Then I'm doing great. If not. Then I'm still doing good. Can't complain to much with free
Well when it comes to what a 76 302 consisted of in factory form, free isn't necessarily a good thing. Which you'd notice from the HP specs mentioned by Krazy Comet. Good block and rods, but filled with grand canyon sized dish pistons, wheezer smog cam, topped with heads that were nothing to write home about and an intake and carb to match.
Don't sweat the naysayers, if it's a good runner go for it. It's a good start and if you desire you can warm it over. One thing to keep in mind, just because it last came out of a 76 pickup doesn't men it started there, we had a 79 F150 show up on our local CL with a real deal 428 SCJ and last I knew that engine was not an option in that year.
If you don't have them yet you might look at these. http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/v8-swap-parts.103694/
ManufacturerFord Motor Company Combustion chamber Displacement 302 cu in (4.9 L) 5.0 Windsor Cylinder bore 4 in (102 mm) Piston stroke 3 in (76 mm) Valvetrain OHV Combustion Fuel system Normally aspirated Output Power output 290 hp (216 kW) @ 5200 rpm Torque output 290 lb·ft (393 N·m) @ 4300 rpm Chronology Successor Ford Boss 351 V8
Not sure why you posted this ? The "5.0 Windsor" ? The block was, the heads are Cleveland style. And the HP/torque numbers don't reflect the true output of an engine that was capable of 8,000 rpms.
Even a stock '76 302 is better than an I-6. Slap on a 4-barrel and dual exhaust system and you're leaps & bounds ahead of where you were.
