Your C4 can be made to shift a lot faster than it does from the factory. The TransGo 40-2 kit will do it for about $70 - $90 US if your C4 is in good shape.
The C4 is not only the best automatic for your application it is probably the least expensive alternative.

TransGo kits are available from most of the online performance stores or you can go to a specialty dealer like Broader Performance. The specialty dealers charge a bit more but at Broader Performance you get more because they provide you with a few extra tricks to juice up the kit and Jay provides the best customer service to his customers that I have ever seen. It is almost as good as my own. :)

There are no overdrive automatic transmissions that will bolt up to the 170 and 200 cu" engines. The C4 is your only automatic alternative that will take any abuse.
There are a number of standard transmissions that are OD equipped if you are willing to spend the money to change over to a manual.
