I was curious on how the Boss was fitted into the Maverick back then - were the towers cut back - what headers were used - things like that
Back in 86 I got that car from a kid named Chris who got it from 4 kids that built the car to drag race in Florida~ Chris told me those kids built the boss 302 using a 302 block 351 heads and a modified intake manifold with a Rochester if that helps~I was told that it was a 6 cylinder with an automatic trans stock from the factory~There had been a column shift with the shifter removed and flopped around~And the hurst they put in it on the floor~The 4 kids went in on the project together and they beat that car to a pulp before I got it~It was amazingly fast~Burned oil terrible they did not break it in the right way when they built the engine I was told~I have driven a lot of different types of cars over the years and that was the only car I drove that my foot would shake so bad driving it that it would sometimes slide off the clutch pedal~Under the hood not knowing what to look for I don't know what was modified there as I do now~This last Maverick had cut shock towers before I got the car and no engine was ever in it the entire 10 yrs I had it~But that first car I cannot picture in my mind now what was done to it~Chris I could tell was no mechanic either~He said it ran consistent 11.7s in Fl~ I did not know what that really meant for several years~Seems like it was pretty good for a street car~It did not have tail lights I kept getting pulled over for that~They took the wiring out of the trunk all together~There wasn't anything a young kid like myself could have done with that at that time~I will look for the remaining picture tonight and post it~It was not looking into the engine compartment but across it~There were oily rags under it as I was filling the oil as I was always doing~it went through gas like crazy but the worst was how many quarts of oil it went through cruising on a Sat night~the running joke was to fill it with oil and check the gas
thank you for the welcome~those are a pair of great looking cars you have there David~you must be very proud of that set!
Wow...that is pretty wild. I am surprised you didn't bust a spring or spindle when you landed as well.
my first Maverick Hi Bob~Here is the picture I promised you~I tore the house apart top to bottom to find the photo album it was in~I took it out of the plastic to get a better picture of it for you~I cannot see the shock towers from this angle~I could not change all the spark plugs~The 4 nearest to the shock towers had to stay but the 4 outer plugs I did change~and they were fouling with all that oil burn and I tried at them several times~
It has the "old school" look with the air shocks, slotted wheels and all the stickers on the side windows
