Good night! ....I just read this entire post from the beginning. I had never seen it before and I gotta admit, its got me quite emotional. What a great group of folks we have here on this forum. I so loved the story, even though its sad, and I hope maverick Mike can finish the tribute to his brother. I also hope the young man and family that just lost their father can find peace and comfort in their time of grief. Maybe in some way the return of that dad's car to the family will provide some of that comfort and make a lasting tribute to the father.
Coop it is awesome that you sold your car to allow Mike to continue his tribute also.. Great story all the way around, hope everything works out for all involved. Cancer is such a devastating disease. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I will definitely keep watching this thread. Please keep the updates coming.

Wow! You are just flying. The engine looks good, in the newly painted engine compartment. Can't wait to see the floor shifter installed. Just remember, when installing the manual front disc brakes, all components are for a 74 Maverick. Can't wait to see the new wheels on the car. Keep going. The finished product is on the horizon... unnamed.jpg

Well after 4 days of non stop work of working on the new pretty yellow engine all went to hell in less than an hour come to find out after filling with water and it leaked out the block is cracked at one of the water ports so called hynes brothers speed shop where the engine was built only to find out the so called owner is in prison ( he was wanted in 9 different states ) for scaming people after a 45 min conversation with the lady on the phone and her giving me all the info where to file a police report the engine that i paid 2000.00 to have built is nothing but a junkyard dog all prettied up ... but im not giving up just yet im still determined and hell bent on getting this project done for maverick round up 2015

This story has convinced me to go to the 2015 Round Up to see both of your Mavs. My grand daughters want to go too.

I am really sorry to hear that about your motor Mike. I know myself I have had my own struggles buying used parts (mainly heads), to find out after your received them that they are not what they are sold as so to speak. Buying used parts is really risky. There are a lot of people out there that are not honest and do not care about being honest. They just want the all mighty buck! Hopefully you can come up with something where you can use all the parts off that motor and just get a new short block.

    Mike,

What is your plans now for a motor. Do you trust the heads and cam in the block that you got? Or are you leary of those being any good either? I think I would have them checked out before I put to much more time into them myself.

Let me know what your plans are. I have a complete 306 short block (302 bored 30 over), balanced and blue printed with I think Barry told me about 25,000 miles on it sitting in the garage I bought off Barry on the forum here. I had given it to my son so he could build the motor he wants for his car. I am checking with him now to see what his plans are or if he is going to use it or not. If not I can work a deal out with you. I think I have been sitting on it for close to 10 years now maybe. You would need cam, heads, oil pan, oil pump, intake, carb, dizzy. It is just the short block. As soon as he responds and lets me know what his plans are I will let you know.

    Thanks
    Allen

Wow, that really sucks. If you were closer, I'd give you my spare 302 roller shortblock. Nothing worse than putting your faith in someone, only to have them rip you off.

That really sucks, Mike. You have a lot of friends in the Pittsburgh area that sound like they are there to support you. That is the essence of what this hobby is about.
