I am never amazed with the things I learn about these cars... have owned 4 of them and never really thought too much about it but I did think in the back of my mind that those panels were hard plastic.... I believe you though when you say the aren't..... I do know what this guy is talking about when he says about a smooth spot because I have seen doors with a smooth spot worn where the driver lays his/her arm on the door, like you would with the window down.....I have also seen them where the texture was painted over real thick and it made it look smooth.
