The 77' Mavericks also had the intermittant wipers as an option.

I found a 1984 Bronco with the rotary interval / intermittent wiper switch. Is this the right switch for the swap with the Mavericks switch or does it have to be an older model Ford?

    Are you serious?

I have to replace them on the Taurus every year!

    They suck.

The '80 and up will work, but the wire to the washer pump will have to be moved in the switch's harness connector to match up with the car's harness connector. There is an empty spot in the connector where the spade needs to be moved to. You have to squeeze the spade shut to slip it out of it's spot and move it to the new one. Then after it's inserted it has to be spread back open to lock it in place.

My 90 F150 has an old style, dash mounted wiper switch.
It is intermittant and looks like the old Ford switches, except the knob is solid black.
I have no idea if it would work, but it sure looks like it would.
Just a thought for junkyard combers.

Neither the 70's or the 80's up to early 90's truck switches are a direct swap for 73 or 74 to 77 mavs. I have a 74, 75, and a 77 and they have longer threads on the body of the switch as well as a longer shaft for the chrome spacer with the lighted wipe wash across the top. They also use a longer nut to hold it to the dash compared to 72 and below. I had to modify an 80's switch to get it to fit right in my 75. I had to extend the shaft by making a longer shaft with a swedged end on it to fit over the existing shaft and secure it with two small set screws. It kinda looks like this-------==. The existing shaft had to be cut roughly 1/2" from the housing. The swedged end could only be about 1/2" long and bored about 3/8" deep so when it is put on the shaft it would be about 1/8" from the switch body to allow the shaft to be pushed in for wash. Then I had to file a flat on the new shaft and cut it off the right length(made it extra long just to be sure). Once in you can't tell that it wasn't factory installed. The ones for 70's trucks are a direct swap for a 72(I put one in mine) and I assume 70 and 71. I am not sure about 73(not sure when they went to the big chrome spacer). The 80's will work (with the washer wire being moved), but it will cause your knob to be upside down in a 72(with the words wipe wash on the knob).

If you search the archives you'll see where all of this was discussed a couple years ago, even some aftermarket part numbers that you can buy at Autozone, Pep Boys, etc.

I just picked one up at the junk yard from a 1976 Maverick. My 1973 has the extended knob on the dash with the lighted wiper/washer chrome spacer, same as the one I picked up from the junk yard. My 1972 does not. Will it fit on my 1972 without any modifications?

Yea, or I can go get one for $6.00 out of an F150 or Bronco. I have had one from an '85 Bronco in my Maverick for over 17,000 miles since January. It works great. Your entire car is non Mav parts.

That's mighty strange, since I just put one from a '90 F150 in my brother's '73 Maverick with the lighted wipe wash thing. It fit fine. I also have one from an '87 F150 in my '69.5 Maverick. Works great. You do have to change a wire in order for the windshield wash motor to work, but that takes like 2 seconds.
