is it a carb problem?

    If you pulled the line from the pump to the carb after trying to start the engine and no gas came out of that line I would say the pump is bad.
    Try pulling that same line and cranking the engine over and see if any gas comes out. If not then the pump is bad or something like the filter sock is blocking the line from the tank.
    I would also pull the oil dip stick and make sure it does not smell like gas. A lot of times when a pump fails it will push gas into the crank case and dilute the oil which will ruin the bearings if you run the engine long like that.

    hahhahahah hahahahaha hahahahaha ha. it worked. all that stuff and I just had to give it a good whack. thanks for the help. that makes me laugh. hahah
