Manually shifting a C4 or C5 will not, in itself, injure the transmission.
Never use a B&M shift kit in a C4 or C5. Use the TransGo reprogramming kit.
The 40-2 kit is for the 70 - up C4 and is simply the best commercial kit available.
It comes with easy to use instructions and there is a help line you can call if you need it.

The last time I bought one of those kits I think I remember it was about $50, they probably sell for close to twice that now. They are well worth the price.

They are the same kit so get the cheaper of the two as long as they have never been opened they should be complete. I think the first link was the cheaper of the two. good find! I just called my supplier and he told me retail was $115 and some change - my cost was $79 so you are stealing it!

No, but you do have to take the valve body out.
Get some 1/4" threaded rod and nuts and cut some 4 inch pieces to use to keep it lined up going back in.

I just had to chime in on "power braking". I have always called it power braking because you are applying power while braking to load the powertrain before launch. It works for me. :drive:

And it is a great way to build up extra heat in the transmission - so I like it too, as long as it isn't one of my transmissions. :)
