I think I will just use the silicone. It "non-greasy" lube. Most of the carrier liquid evaporates away and it leaves just a fine layer of lube that penetrates without me having to take it all apart again.

Just lazy. And any spray that gets onto the disk and pads will burn off after a couple thousand miles :D

Honestly, though, I think it is more the poor tires. The brakes have under 300 miles on them, and they were spotless clean. The pads moved around freely when I assembled it, and it pulled to the right immediately after I got it back together. That is why I asked about the jacking on the A-arms.

Down with Dodge! Up with Ford and Mercury! (Mavs and Comets anyway):D

I asked once if anyone knew of a platinum plug for the 73 302 and I only remember people saying or suggesting to stay with the regular plugs  (bad memory, been awhile too) Wish I knew though...

So you jack up the Mav under the radiator area...Do you also put a 2x4 under the upper control arms? I read that that is the correct way to inspect the front suspension...

As far as I know, no platinum for the 302, maybe for the GT-40P heads, since they are smaller diameter and longer threaded plugs, more modern-style.

I don't use the 2x4. what is that supposed to do? Explain it with more detail...I can't picture it in my head...

It's Not A Matter Of Being Proven Wrong But Rather Pointed In The Right Direction...

Been awhile since I read this but what I understood is that you put a 2x4 under the upper control arm before lifting the car so that the suspension is closer to actual height (while sitting on the ground) and trying to achieve a no load or stressing on the steering linkages. I did that and found play in my linkages more than if I didn't use the 2x4. Of course that was before I installed my new coils, now I can't fit anything under there so I need to do something about that. Basically so that you can inspect the front end at the ride height and not a position where there may be no or less wear. Is that confusing enough?

    :yikes:

    Where does the 2x4 go?

I have mostly stock suspension, and have lots of play, and want to verify where it is before I scrap the power steering (might scrap it anyway...good location for a centrifugal blower :evilsmile ). I have another thread on technical regarding rebuilding the front suspension, so if I could inspect it in a better way before totally rebuilding...

I bought those plugs for my P heads before I found the header/plug clearance issue...Got a set sitting around if someone wants them, but they won't fit the stock heads. They are AP764

Also have a set of Split fires for the stock heads, if anyone wants them. I had good luck with them, but only used them maybe 500 miles before I got the P heads.
