yea, used is the only way. they were printed in the late 70's. 1970's ford shop manuals are pretty usefull as well. ive found this website to be more useful then that book though
The bolt you're dealing with has a "Torx" head. As for a carb, you'll want no larger than a 600 cfm 4 bbl. Such as Holley's list 1850 600, or a 570 Street Avenger. There are lots more that'll work, these are just two.
How hard is it to rebuild a carb? i was thinkin about buyin a carb off ebay and rebuilding it if i can
They're not hard to rebuild, the hard part is choosing the right candidate. Stick with those that are obviously little used, and still somewhat "new" looking and you might just get away with just changing the powervalve and accellerator pump diaphram. I bought my 570 Street Avenger like this, all I changed was the powervalve. Cleaned it up and bolted it on. Buy one that looks 40 years old and all you'll have is a parts carb. Good, little used, 1850 600's can be had off ebay for around $100.
I think you can forget that idea. You're going to run into a ton of small issues that take time with this swap. Just to name a few: Radiator (smaller openings & inlet location problem. Rad shop can fix) Throttle cable (can get by with 6 cyl cable though...longer) Exhaust (Big issue) Motor and frame mounts as you know Minor wiring issues Fuel lines...reroute (minor) Tranny lines Shifter issues Belly bar...recommended I'm sure you'll come across other things too. These just come to mind right off. I've got a 71 Grabber I'm getting ready to do the same thing to. Fortunately, I've pulled a 302 plus everything else from a 73 Mav so I have everything I need. Oh yeah...I like your avatar pic.
Thanks. i wish it was a pic of my car but my pic was too big. i have planned around most of the problems and plan to get all those parts together before i start. i'm gonna make sure i'm off for two days just in case. thanks for the advice. thats the kind of info i'm lookin for. if anything else comes to mind let me know.
oh yeah i know. im gonna sand the headers down and paint them. and im gonna rebuild the holley. what kind of shops would have the machine that cleans the intake?
Pretty much any machine shop will have a glass bead machine. That's all you need for an aluminum intake.
any idea about how much that cost? i have a question about carb secondaries. before the secondaries kick in is the motor running on 2 bbls?
I've always been able to do my so I really don't know how much they would charge. It's only about 10-20 minutes of labor if it's fairly clean. I wouldn't want to pay more than $20-25 bucks for it anyway. And yes, the engine would be running on 2 bbls. The valve covers Frank has are very limited production and they will fit any 302 or 5.0 engine. There were only 100 sets made and they are sold out. You would have to advertise and hope one of us wanted to get rid of ours. Gonna hang on to mine a while though.
you can get some covers like that from auto krafters for about 170 but not for an efi motor. what about the filter? i know how the dubble pumper works with the manual secondaries but how does the vacume secondaries work?
i cut the stock emblem out and replaced it with a Maverick emblem that a friend of mine cut out with a water jet... ...Frank...
