I'm a first time Maverick owner. Never restored a car either but I'm learning. This forum has already proven to be a wealth of knowledge and I truly appreciate everyone's input.

When I was 15 my cousin had a 72 Grabber. He had it all fixed up and he was going to sell it to me as my first car. Then he turned around and sold it to his buddy for $200.

I'm a few decades older, but always loved the Mavericks. My buddy's dad died about a decade ago and he had a 1971 Maverick that used to be his mom's daily driver (104k). My buddy was planning on working on it with his son but never got around to it. I scooped it up from him and took it to FL where I'm currently trying to go through it with MY son who is curious about cars and mechanics. I don't know a ton, but I was a diesel mechanic in the Marines for 11 years so.. I can change oil!

So far I'm just trying to get it driveable. I managed to clean the layers of lichen off of it from sitting under some trees for a decade (hadn't even been started in 5 years) . The steering was sloppy, the tires kept going flat, it needed basic tuneup stuff, it was missing swaybar links, bad wheel cylinders, etc but the interior is actually in decent shape except for the headliner. I think the next thing, once I get it able to drive and stop, is to do a front disc upgrade, then take out the 250 for a 302, new trans, new rear, new suspension... it will never end.

If anyone happens to have a 76/77 manual disc brake setup (spindles, MC, calipers, et al) or can point me to a good site for replacing the engine bay sheetmetal, that would be much appreciated. Until then, thanks for having me aboard and I look forward to scouring the forums for nuggets of knowledge.

    - Jared

Post up some pictures of the engine bay sheet metal that you need.
