congratulations katie. now you'll have to get on here and tell us all the tales about your dad. okay, maybe you'll have to wait until after dad actually gives you the car.
I myself, would have a Very, Very hard time giving it up to anyone once I had it in my hands. I'm glad your happy and I hope she enjoys it.
i thik a kid would love ANY car that was given to them by their parents on their permit or license day... or anytime for that matter
Sweet, reminds me of my car when I got it. I hope she doesn't know about the forum! You may have given up the secret.
Is this the infamous 7" rear end? first time I've ever seen an inspection plate on a ford differential...besides an 8.8. There are a few other "peculiar" things about this Mav, I'll bring up later. Real busy trying to get this thing cleaned up, Craig I believe that is the correct color, I need to clean the data sticker and get the trim codes. Gotta get back to the shop
My 1970 Grabber (that now belongs to Dave Ring aka Maverick Guy) was that color. In person....it looked teal. Take a picture of it...it always came out blue looking. Yes....that is a 7.5 rear end.
Yep I loved my first car (82 t-bird) that is... untill all my friends made fun of me for driving a granny car ( oh if I'd only known then what I know now) Last saw it in the u-pull in about the same miseable condition I'd sold it in. Hope she enjoys it, and takes good care of it, its a great looking car.
Ya know, even as a teenager driving a Maverick, when/if I have teenagers of my own some day, I don't think I would want them driving a Maverick either. Or any classic unreplaceable car for that matter. Just to easy for them to do something stupid and wreck it. I think I have alot more driving experience though then most kids my age. I've drove over 150,000 miles since I got me learners permit at 15. Almost everyone who rides with me says I drive better then anyone they know. I gotta agree on the '82 T-bird being kind of a granny looking car. I wouldn't mind haveing somewhere around a '88 T-bird with a 302 in it though. I like that body style. My mom had a whitish grey '88 with red interior. Traded it in on a black '92 back in '93. We still see her old '88 running around all the time. Looking kind of worn now. It had almost 200,000 when she traded it in in '93. Wonder what its got on it now.
Thats my thoughts... I tore my first car up( and first truck to). I'm glad they were both one of ten-million. Its true that my Bird was a granny ride, But I never would have suspected how easy a 460 drops into one of them...(would have changed my life with that in highschool. dont know if for the better or worse.)
When I was racing, back in '02, a friend of mine had a 1969 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, 2dr, stripped out with a 500cu in engine, and that tank ran 11's. Funny what 'granny' cars can do, sometimes.
As with any car it has it's plus points and negatives. The big plus is she really wants a Mav, insurance is cheap, it's paid for, good gas mileage, low maintenance, it's not so complicated that I can't teach her how to work on it, I have every conceivable spare part, it's a solid car, unlike these plastic cars of today. This is her car and I have no idea what she will want to do to it, if anything. I'll just be there to help out with whatever it is. I'd like to see it brought back to like new condition with no mods. I told her when she get home from getting her permit we would go over to the shop and start working on the 4 dr. Comet...thats what she "thinks" she's getting and she was very happy with that, can't wait to see the look on her face when I roll the door up and this baby is sittin there. Still alot of cleaning to be done, I can't save the paint, it's dead, all I've managed to do is take a 50 footer and make it a 20. When it comes time for a repaint I hope she want to keep it the same color, it's a great color IMO.
Rick- You may or not agree with this, but if it were my lil' girl going in there, it would have a safe 3 pt. seatbelt system and better brakes than it came with. It looks like a nice clean and solid car. Congrats to you both. Seth
