Gotta agree with Seth on that. I hate the non-retractable belt and she probably wont use it like a regular belt plus we all know how crappy the drums are in a quick stop.I have a link for the belts if you need it. Still a very nice ride.If she was happy with a 4-dr comet she should be tickled to death with this. Enjoy the moment Rick and try to get a pic of the look on her face when you roll the door up. Yep, I agree with the guys above. I think about the only mods I would make to that car is disc brakes, better seat belts and a 8 inch rear. Looks like a great little car. I'm sure she will love it.
When I as 16 my car did lots of donuts in the snow, lots of trips through fields and lots of parking down old dirt roads .... Basically ... I trashed it .... Maybe girls are different ....
If that is the original paint....it can be saved. It will take some work....and probably will not look "new" for ever...but it can be "brought out" some. The paint on this car was absolutly flat and dead. It now looks like a good 10 footer. It took wet sanding, machine polishing, wet sadning, machine polishing, swirl remover, hand polish, and wax. I machined it with Micro-Polish I believe.
Hmm, well I haven't gone through any fields or done any dounuts in the snow, but I have driven mine about a mile down in some thick woods on an old 4 wheeler trail.
That's awesome Rick, i'm glad Katie is excited about driving a Mav/Comet!!! I know what you guys mean about being hard on them, let's just say that before the comet was airborne on the dragstrip, it was airborne several times deep in the woods of the Western NC mountains!!!
Craig i tried everything you mentioned...the problem is if you do much to it, it will get to the primer qwik I can't get to any "good" paint without the primer starting to come through. Thats what I mean by being "dead" paint Just waxing it takes a layer of paint off. It looks decent but it would look great with some good paint to work with. Guys I don't think I have to worry about her mistreating the car, she knows what she has and I think she will treat it like a 36 year old classic. All I'm gonna hear for the next 7 months is "Can I take it to the Roundup, Dad? BTW...Katie will be sending her club app and dues soon.
Yes, girls are different. That's why the insurance is a better rate than boys. Also, they drop the rate at 21 years old for girls instead of the 25 years old for boys. I was a statistic myself in 1976: MY WRECK
the first driveable car i was given was a four door mav, and the first car i bought was the grabber i have now. for several years it was my main driver, and i constantly harrased friends and family who would tell me to trade it for a new car. i would point out how often i did anything more than minimal upkeep, while pointing out the hundreds of dollars and hours they were spending at the shop. not to mention payment and insurance premium on top of that. If my wife hadnt killed the 4 door id still have it and i will never sell the grabber. how many of my friends from high school can say that about their new car mommy or daddy got for em. You made an excellent choice and i know shell apreciate it
Katie passed the test and got her permit today, I'm gonna give her the car tomorrow. It's funny, I waited in the parking lot of the DMV and she comes running out all excited to show me the permit then looks me dead in the eye and says......"When can we paint the Comet?" I almost couldn't keep a straight face :evilsmile
Congrads Katie, (you to dad) on the Maverick score and passing your driving test. My daughter wants a Maverick also. I'm having a hard time finding what I........ (she) wants. Ken
Congrats to both of you! Man I remember the day I got my permit like it was yesterday and drove home from the DMV. Never dreamed I would be driving a Maverick at the time though.
