There are 10 bulbs in the back of the instrument cluster: (1): High beam indicator (2): Turn signal indicators (4): Warning lights (temp, oil, brakes, battery) (3): Instument cluster general lighting I would say just replace the (3) general lighting bulbs with the LED's and leave the standard 194 bulbs in the other spots. That is what I'm going to do. I ordered LED bulbs today from superbrightleds.com. I have bought LED's in the past for my later model Mustang from them and have had good luck with their bulbs.
Awesome, thanks. Im going to switch out my cluster lights and see if I can read the gauges at night now =)
Thanks for this info. And I agree, just replace the general cluster lighting. The other stock bulbs are never on full-time and easy to see.
You're welcome!! That is what I figured too! Here is a link to the page where I bought mine. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/...-maverick--instrument-general/20-737--292738/ These are the ones that I got: 194 LED Bulb - 5 SMD LED Wide Angle Wedge Base I got them in 'Cool White'. They are the ones that are listed at the top of the page. They are #1 on the list of bulbs.
Thanks. I just ordered some. I was tempted to order green, but those probably wouldn't be bright enough.
You're welcome! I also thought about getting the green, but I figured the white would be the brightest and make the gauges easier to read at night.
whitegauges also sells LED replacements for the cluster bulbs. I purchased the whitegauges kit with the replacement LEDs and I am very happy with the overall product. There are 4 bulbs that I would change out in teh instrument cluster.
the easiest thing I have found is placing two 3" led strips in the gauge cluster there is plenty of space between the gauges and lens. the strips are only $15 at your local parts store and you can pick any color you want and it definitely lights everything up!!
They are called T- 3.25, or T-3-1/4" Wedge Base bulbs. I found the #158 bulbs in my car. They are barely bright enough at night turned up all the way. They are also the 2nd dimmest. #161's are a joke. #168 4.9 watts Brightest possible meltdown #193 4.62 watts Next Brightest, also iffy on heat ____________________________________________ #192 4.3 Watts third brightest and reported to not melt #194 3.78 Watts, real close in watts to the 158's why bother #158 3.3 watts Stock and not bright at night #161 2.66 watts dont bother, right??? Now I also found LED replacements! http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...ini-wedge.html The brightest that would fit are the WLED-WHP9-T but they are only 35 Lumens, and the 158 bulbs I have now are 32 Lumens..the LED bulbs are Like $15.00 each... I installed the 168's and the reason is I have LED lit AutoMeter guages on my modified dash pad and they are way too bright when the dimmer switch is turned up all the way. So, when I turn down the dimmer to dim the instrument cluster, I expect the Auto Meter's to be comparable in brightness.
