    Searching for the 2-Piece Z-bar

    5 month Search for a z-bar for 74" Comet 302
There has been delays with getting the clutch equalizer/z-bar thru AutoKrafters or Melvin's (Conyers,GA).

Can anyone help with a location of a pick-a-part or another manufacturer/distributor that may have one?

I have a 1970 Ford Maverick. It originally had a 6 cylinder, but now it has a V8. Everything was changed as far as suspension goes, except it still has the original 4 bolt front end.

I'd like to not only change it to 5, but install disc brakes. Can you tell me what would work on my car? Also, the gas tank has considerable corrosion, and I'd like to replace it, but I can't locate a Maverick gas tank. Are there any Mustang gas tanks, etc. that would work?

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the board.

For front disc brakes most guys go to 74 and later Mav/Comet or first generation Granada/Monarch/Versailles.(pre-1981) Grab the entire spindle and it is a virtual bolt-in except that you have to use tie-rod ends that match the later hardware and you will want to change the brake lines. 73 Mavs had a disc brake option, but if I am not mistaken, those are 10 inch rotors and all the later ones are 11 inch, a lot more stopping power.

Gas tanks ... later tanks are reproduced but not prior to 74. Those end up being very close to the rear valance. There also is a great tech article here regarding swapping in an early Mustang tank. The advantage of that is it is centered in the car and there is more room for dual exhaust.

This board has a great search function and it is a wealth of knowledge.

Also, go introduce yourself at new members ... :thumbs2:

    Rooster,

The Z bar is specific to Mav/Comets. I am not aware of any repro'd at this time. Maybe if you posted in Parts Wanted, someone could help you out.

    Expect to pay ...

    Hello,
I am curious if the front fenders from a 71-72 Mercury Comet will work on a 70 2 Dr. Maverick?
    Thanks,

    Jerry Hayes

As far as the Mustang rear bumper question goes....I ran a 68 Mustang rear bumper on one of my old Mavericks. It looked fine to me but I think I had to modify the brackets a bit.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Those bumpers are about 1" wider on each side, but they do fit.

I'm actually making my maverick bumper narrower to be more appealing to the eye.:)

I'm sure someone can help you out on the forum. There are quite a few members from the east central and southern states here. If you have the small 7 3/4 rear with the back bolt on cover, here is your chance to upgrade to an 8 inch rear.:thumbs2:

You should also post this in the classifieds under "parts wanted" - you may get better results :yup:
