Putting aod trans in my 76 Maverick. Want to keep original column shift. I see lokar makes this kit (pic) I read in one post where guy says he used kit from lokar to keep his column shift. Is this the kit to use? Thanks
2wheels, Did you figure this out? I am about to start an 1990 EFI 5.0 & AOD swap in the next few weeks and am trying to keep my column shift. Any information will be helpful. Aaron
I'd think that if original application was from a column shift vehicle the stock lever could probably be used... Of course most are using Stang trans and those were all floor shift...
I was talking to Dave b who has. He said the only header that he could find that would work was the Doug thorly shortie headers. Yes they are expensive. And yes that lokar kit. I have not done. Decided to stick with c4 for now.
I have the Hooker 6901s on the way. I am going to look in to the Lokar Steering Column Cable Shift Linkage ACA-1805. I should be getting to this point in the next two months and will let you know what worked.
Finished off my AOD and 5.0 EFI swap last week. So to answer the question of if the Lokar kit works, it does but it does not. It does in the fact that I have park, reverse, neutral and overdrive. Also it lines up with the markings on the column shifter. However you have to cut down the OEM shifter at the column to clear the headers (Picture 1) then also round the edges (Picture 2). This changes the geometry at the transmission so that you have to install the Lokar lever at the 6 0'clock position instead of 7:30 like the directions state(Picture 3). This is the reason that you can't go into 1 or Drive because the linkage then hits the nut for the TV lever(Picture 4). I also had to trim down the spacers that came with the kit so they would clear the headers (Picture 5) . Also the TV lever in the photo was the wrong one for the EFI setup and I had to backspace the correct lever to clear the shifter lever (Picture 3).
