Torque boxes tie the front frame rails to the rocker panels. Its a very important structural part of the car. Alot of the metal panels you will need will have to be cut out of another car, majorly modified mustang panels, or fabricated from sheet stock. I dont want to discourage you but as much as this car needs, I've seen alot of guys go gung-ho on projects like this, only to get burned out and give up after many long hours of wasted effort. If you find a doner car to get the metal out of, chances are it will be easier to fix the doner car than this one. If you do fix this one, you certainly have my respect and admiration for what its worth.

Part it out for your 'second' Mav, or sell the parts at a discount on this site :D (okay....or ebay)

    Luck

that's bad news, I am so sorry,

I tend to go with the trend here.

Find a rust free mav that someone is selling cheap or for parts, and transfer all of your parts over.

You may even find one with a 302 this time.

Thank you all very much for your advice. I wanted nothing more than to fix this car and i am heart broken that it's days are numbered. My enthuasim and will to do it may get me through it yet though.

Just so the legacy of my Mav can live on, let me tell ya what he's been through. The origional owner street raced the car for something like 12 years in small town Iowa before he sold it to a junk yard. There it sat till 4 years ago when it was baught by a kid who goes to my old school for $50. He used this car to go off roading. If you have seen the movie road trip, where the guys ramp the bridge......well this car has done it twice! Then it fell into my hands. I havent been quite as aggressive with it, but if i told you that i havent been tearing it up on gravel roads i would be lying.

Anyways, i am not sure what i want to do now. My heart says fix it but my brain says i'm a fool. Sigh :( What ever i do I'll keep you poasted though:cool:

    Follow your head!

You will fall in love with its replacement just as fast. Cars worse than this have been fixed before, but they are usually rare and impossible to replace. Unfortunately, your car does not fall into that category. I would get a rust free body from the sun belt and start there. Believe me, even that will keep you busy.

Not the end of the world...

.. I agree with the previous posts, this is a parts car.
Find yourself another one that doesn't need so much
work. That one probably weighs a couple of hundred
lbs. less than it should due to the cavities it has suffered.
    Definitely not a keeper.

If it had 'SHELBY' on the title it would be a keeper, find
    another one!
