I was thinking the formed/molded plastic would be perfect way to go. Just need a original louver to do it. Maverickman needs to get this done
when you guys first said louvers I was thinking of the side scoops on a mustang or the plastic? window covers that look like vents. like the fast back shelbys. now those would be awesome on a maverick or comet. I never thought about the 80's transam window covers. they were cool on transams but nothing else except mad maxs car
if they were made and only $50 new I dont think I would buy a set. I didnt want to pay like $40 for a custom carb linkage set up but I had to to keep from scratching my powder coated intake. its not that Im cheap its that I dont want to spend money on things that arent BADAZZ. my wife said she was going to spend $80 on a shift knob for my car (she hates my car) Im glad she didnt. I told her thats ridiculous I wouldve returned it.
There's a lot of us quiet ones out here who just read a lot & not say a lot. Some even have more than one mav or comet, like me. Providing the kinks were worked out & made of metal, at $300 I would want two sets, because I am one who thinks it completes the look. That's just me,though, thinking out loud.
I know what I sold my original ones for and I know there are few people that would pay $700 again but there are a few diehards that would do it in a heartbeat. I will say that over the last 7 years of running louvers on my blue Maverick that I have been contacted at least 300-400 times by people asking where they could get some. It really got tiresome answering the same thing so often. This certainly doesn't mean they would have all bought one, even at $300, but there is definitely a lot of interest in them. I would certainly love to have 100 or so sets put up to sell. I would bet you could sell a good 50 or so in the first year but it would take a while for the next 50. You would certainly have to use eBay and companies like Auto Krafters to move them. But then again, more and more nice Mavericks continue to surface so we might all get surprised.
I have considered making some out of aluminum but to make it nice and rounded is just not going to happen. Plus all the welding *thumbs down*
I love louvers! Had a set on my Honda CRX back in the 80's. Yes, some folks think they are dated, but our cars are 40 years old, they are dated too. I cant say that I would pay $700 for a set, but I would certainly pay 3-4 hundred. I think the rarity of them certainly drove up the price, but making them readily available would drive down the cost down. With respect to the trunk cleanance, I would be fine lifting them up to get in the boot. Just my 2 cents.
That's exactly what I was driving at. I think there would be many surprised folks out there who think they have a complete handle on the publics overall demand for these types of parts. Then add some matching side window louvars? badda bing.. badda boom. :bananaman PS. and not to knock your car at all because I think it's one of the finest examples that I've seen to date.. BUT.. I really do think that the one's you sold would have gone more quickly had they been a full length version.
