Mad max maverick I have a 1975 Mavrick four-door I’m going to be moving to Colorado soon and I want to get a four-wheel-drive vehicle We’re putting a four-wheel-drive option in my girlfriends 2017 jeep and I had a crazy idea I was wanting to do a mad max style to my 1975 Maverick four-door the transmission is bad and I has a blown head no distributor and the engine basically needs Rebuilding so I thought It would be pretty cool to build a 4 x 4 sedan but I don’t know where to start I want to keep it ford I want to keep it clean and simple and in-line six if possible any suggestions on the engine transmission and transfer case that I should use. I do realize this will be a lot of work and a lot of customizing. I’ve been doing some research and apparently people have already done this but do you think they used I can’t find spec’s anywhere I’ve seen it on cutlasses Mustangs El Camino’s and a slew of other muscle cars but not a maverick four-door and I think it will be pretty cool there are a lot of manual 4 Wheel Drive sedans out there so I was thinking that there might be something that will just fit but I’m not sure I’d like to keep it ford. I was thinking something like 4 x 4 Ford ranger or something like that but I’m not sure any ideas tips or crazy experiments that anyone’s heard of would be greatly appreciated thank you

There are several 4 wheel drive Mavericks that have been made, wish I could steer you in the right direction in the build but I do believe hat a Ranger foundation would work

The ONLY way it would work would be to put the Maverick body onto a 4x4 truck frame.

I think you will find this will be a ton of work, a ton of fabrication, etc. You will either have to have a ton of skills to do this yourself, or deep pockets to pay somebody to do all this work....if you could even find somebody willing to do the work.

There was a two door for sale in Yakima, WA a few months ago, not sure that it sold but haven't seen it advertised in a while.

The 4 door maverick has a wheelbase of 109.9"----the standard box rangers have a wheelbase of 107.9"---so it would not be a direct fit but you may be able to adjust the mav body a bit to fit the ranger frame and allow the front wheels to still turn without rubbing. Tire sizing may be a bit of a challenge as well as you would lose an 1" inside each wheel weld if you centered the body on the ranger frame.---However, you could put a lift kit on it and open up more options to go for bigger tires/wheels-------certainly a ton of work and some crafty back yard engineering --- but they say anything is possible---

As I recall, it was a 2 door mav and a pick up chassis. The asking price was around 4K? Also had a 390.

Ford Explorer 5-Door: 111.9 in. it also has a flat frame rather than the kick up frame of the ranger.
