Why did you install the top at this stage? I would have thought it would have went to paint first? Just wondering out loud here....

We did it for two reasons. We had to install the top first before we could put the new headliner in. The vinyl top moldings are held on with T-bolt clips on the ends, and they can not be accessed with the headliner in place. The other reason is like Blown76Mav said. When the guy spread out the new top across the hood, it could very easily scratch new paint. Not only that, when the glue is sprayed on the roof and the underside of the top it has a tendency to float in the air and get all over everything. It's a whole lot easier to remove the glue overspray on a car that still needs to be sanded than it is to try to remove it from fresh paint. The new top can easily be taped off with plastic before the car is painted.

Glad you posted this info. I have known about the wd40 trick for some time but the info about the glue getting on every thing and the possible scratchec is a great thing to know. Thanks(y)

I agree, it makes my plans to replace my top before repainting the car, fall right into place
