That's an impressive car! Good times, better than most V8 Mavericks can do. Thanks for posting the pictures. Very interesting. -Corbin
300 in mav Thanks for the pics guys. Don`t know how much horse I will have in my 300-6. This started out as a project when I had the engine given to me. Not knowing at the time that it was a unusal thing to do baut after I was told that I couldn`t do it, of course, I had to. At this time I`m bored 40 over with oversize cam 2 steps up from stock, offenhouser intake with 450 4-barrel cfm carb. When I pull the engine to redo under the hood I am going to get a new intake and thinking about a 600 or 650cfm carb. I`m also going to have the hear redone and milled a little. I still need a 3:55 rear end and will be putting in a 3-speed auto with overdrive. What do you guys think about that type of set-up? How much horse do you think that will give me? Not trying to go with as much as I can get, just want some good old stright-6 power. (and then some ha ha Maverickdad
I had posted in another thread that the original builder/ owner of the Mad Frenchmen has contacted me about the car and providing photos. It was built and dynoed here in my home town of Easton, Pa. back in 1976. Has run, down in the 11.2s when he had the car. That means about 400 hp +. He detailed to some degree, at my request, how he developed that much power back then and about drove him broke maintaing that level with the parts he had to work with back then.
Run my Lincoln Mark VII a few weeks ago at E town without drag slicks and was a disaster for ET at 15 flat but the termnal speed of 96 mph showed the motor had a lot of power after the tires got bite. Figures to be 300 hp ave. to move 3985 lbs. in weight. to that speed. Should have been low 14s at near 100 so the engine was putting out at least 325 hp running water/alky injection and a power tune using the blower. Should be in MM & FF mag in Jan.
