I don't. Never have. I also hate the skinny front tire look. Looks like the car would fall over of it had to corner hard.
Craig; love the look of the SS, but hate the wheel. I had a set that the chrome flaked off, the unilugs wallowed out, and the steel wheel rusted. Not because of neglect, just that they did, in spite of cleaning, waxing and torqueing. In Cragar's defense, they did replace the wheels with a different wheel, and I was then ok. Just have some reservations about the SS's. Earl
I think the SS wheel is "the" wheel for any muscle car. Heck, you can slap a set on a Granada and it will look cool. I agree...don't care much for the skinny wheel up front....and they do take a lot of upkeep to keep them from rusting.....but darn they look cool!!!
See what you started Craig? no, I don't like the Cragar SS wheel. Look at the American Racing Torque Thrust....now THAT'S a sweet looking wheel...
I like them both but the cragers never seem to get their chrome down right. I've had a problem with every chromed crager i've owned.
I agree with TL. I like Torq-Thrusts, and I like Magnums. I also like deep dish steel wheels with poverty caps. Anything that looks like the factory might have done it, with additional width and tire size looks cool to me. Crager SS wheels always left me with the impression that the owner couldn't think of anything else to do. I am probably going to take some heat for that, but ....so be it.
Wheels... I think that the S/S Cragars are the best looking wheel due to the fact that all the Comets and Mavericks that my Comet went to high school with had them. It's just what I am used to. I was well out of the teen hot rod scene when aluminum drag style wheels and chrome slots were in style. I also missed the era that coincided with my hot rod years, which was the wire basket spoke wheel years. Every Montsie Carlo and Grand Prees in town back in 1984 had those cheap spoke wheels without the spokes installed. Whitewalls and curb feelers along with a fuzzy steering wheel cover and you were in business. That was in Durham. All the white guys had Cragars with black walls or chrome American Racing CP200's or 'Snowflake' aluminum American CP's. It ws funny, if you drove out into rural areas back then, the black guys there didn't like spokes, they used wide offset cragar S/S on all corners, often with whitewall tires and air shocks in the front or all around. It's amazing how styes and tastes vary from area to area and one generation to the next. I'll probably get them again some day. As for the skinny front, it was way cool on my friends black Comet GT back in 1984, but hell to stop on wet pavement. Torq-Thrusts are sherp looking wheels on some cars, I just haven't seen any other than posted pics on the web and here-like the sharp grabber green Grabber. I don't think hubcaps look good on any sport or muscle car. That includes the '70 Mach 1 that came with the ugliest hub caps ever made. Shelby also had some hubcaps, styled after the cragar s/s wheels made specifically for Shelby, and you don't find them on the cars at shows very often. No to hubcaps! Seth
I like some hub caps. I think it makes a clean and simple looking wheel. Visible lug nuts makes a wheel look too busy. I think these wheels are the best looking factory wheels ever made.
Even though I love the SS, Torque Thrust and Weld Pro Stars, They are too common for my taste. I like to be different. Here is a reproduction of the factory wheel.
yes, they are the battery cables. I ran them up over the rear wheel wells then there is a trough on top of the rocker panels, under the sill plates. I ran them in there to the front. THen I had to punch a hole where the antenna normally comes in to get them back in the front fenderwell
