my project There are no die-cast mavs or comets available that i know of so Im building a model of my car. I had to buy a 70 mustang to get the seats & wheels but it coming along slowly. I just fitted it together without glue to take these pics, Sorry they are not to good.
my comet gt, amt ertl rereleased the 69 cougar eliminator model, you can get your hood scoop out of there.. that looks pretty awsomehttp://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3147179161&category=2581
I made my own Maverick models by using the Johan Prostock kit and a Cougar or Mustang kit and some spare parts. Cut or grind the back seat out of the Cougar/Mustang kit, grind then file the seat to fit the Maverick interior bucket. Use front bucket seats to match install dash wheel/column and you have a complete stock Maverick interior! You can buy a stock Maverick hood and Grabber decals from ebay. Build the engine using a stock intake and carb/aircleaner from another kit. You can use the prostock wheels/tires with diferent rims. This will work. I have built 5 of these model and still have them. I bought a STOCK or Prostock Johan kit the 6cylinder version and make a sprint ( red white blue) of it it! It looks awsome, again I got all decals from ebay. I also disected a Palmer Kit to ger the "grabber hood" and made a 72 grabber! These are justs some Ideas I have played with to be able to make the Maverick they should have offered! I have a real 1974 Maverick Grabber and I wanted to make a model of it and this is the way I did it. It not a cheap model but its well worth it and its been fun enginering it. I you are not a model bulder I herd there will be a diecast soon. If so I will buy one! Joe
good Idea Hey I hadnt thought of using the back seat so now I have to do that. I did all the other things you said also (decals, stock air filter, etc) . Color was hard to match. but I got close. Still a work in Progress.
