My maverick has been in storage over winter, and when I went to start it with a fresh battery it wouldn't crank. No clicks or anything. The battery had 13V and I had lights, so I was thinking that it could be something to do with the starter solenoid. Does anybody know the best way to test the solenoid to see if it's getting the signal from the key or anything else I should look out for? I've bought a multimeter but electrical systems are not my strong point. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If it has the solenoid pictured all that's necessary is jump the S terminal to battery connection. Small screwdriver works fine. If engine cranks there is a wiring problem, if not either solenoid or starter is defective. If solenoid clicks(just once) it's probably the starter. If solenoid chatters, battery is probably weak. if there's not even a click, tap the solenoid lightly with a hammer. sometimes they're stuck.

    Neutral safety switch?

Work the gear shifter around a bit and make sure it is fully into park for an automatic or neutral with clutch in for manual. See if that makes a difference.
