I didn't see the current price anywhere on the site. (I might have just missed it, wouldn't be the first time... ) To find out for sure you'll have to click on the link for a price quote. They'll do the conversion and give you a price that's good for so many days before you have to get another quote. I took a look at the exchange rate and it looks to be hovering around a 1-1 rate which would mean there is no real advantage to having US dollars to spend on the rack...
Your BUY-IT-NOW Price AU$ $2,650 inc delivery (U.S. 2650.83) OUCH!!!! Ok it's more expensive than the R&C kit.
I think I got lucky a couple of years ago when I bought my power rack for less than $2k...the US dollar was quite a bit stronger then....
FYI, at the end of the racing season, I will be selling my RRS coil-over conversion w/ brakes and manual rack&pinion. It will basically be brand-new w/ a few dragstrip passes on it. I will be switching over to the AJE front end to drop a few lbs.
I was figuring the manual rack would be $1800 or so. And that's pretty expensive. The R&C kit comes with brakes, brake lines, control arms, spindles, sway bar, cross member, coil over bushings, seals, bearings, and steering shaft for $2595. Of course labor is much more involved but you get all that new stuff. A whole new front suspension! Oh and 7 inches on each side more clearance. If it's an easy bolt on could someone help me understand why it costs so much? I would buy it in a heart beat if it was $1500 or less. Then the easy bolt in factor + price wins out over the MII kit in my opinion. Am I missing something? Does it come with more stuff? Sway bar? Brakes? :16suspect
I looked at both systems, and in the end figured..for the work involved, compared to the price, in the end the Rod & Custom kit gives you more...
I looked up a bunch of Mustang and Falcon kits and found the power kits in the $1500-1800 range and the manual kits in the $1200-1500 range. Is there a conspiracy to keep Mavericks from handling good? Seriously? I'm sensing the presence of black helicopters. This smacks of "The Corvette factor". It's the phenomenon that causes the identical part for a Camaro to cost 30% more when ordered for a Corvette.
It's not a conspiracy, there's just not a huge demand. Most guy's on here would rather spend their money on a engine rather than steering. Although rack and pinion would make the car more fun!
but there can't be a huge demand for Falcon stuff. Or Torino. I don't know. Might be tin foil hat time... My friend is a good fabricator. I might start trying to get him to help me fit one. I'm betting there is a standard rack from some regular every day car that would fit. I wonder what the measurements on the RRS rack are? Any one know?
Hey CometGT1974. How much are you gonna sell it for? I might be interested Oh and how does it feel? I also have a Pinto with manual rack and it would turn circles around my Maverick. I just want my Mav to feel nimble. It's too small a car to feel so ungainly.
Obviously the rack&pinion setup is far superior to the stock setup, no comparison. I'm not sure what I will be asking for mine, but it will include a bump-steer kit from Alston Chassisworks, modified lower control arms w/ global-west sperical bearing upgrade, Strut Rod bearings from Calvert Racing, and custom brakes from Aerospace Components.....I wouldn't be able to sell this stuff "cheap" but someone will get a substantial discount over the original cost. Also will include the lower control arm eccentric eleminators.
