I gave up on it years ago for several reasons. One of them being that it is not a factory wagon, just a conversion. I did not know that at the time. I believe Chuck is after it now so we still may see it here in the future.

    Maverick Wagon

I cooresponded with the same seller for a LONG time several years ago. Since I could never locate a shipping company to give me a suitable quote or exact details of getting it loaded, I gave up before negotiating very heavily. I'm not actually after this particular wagon since I actually question whether it even exists. If so, why has it been for sale now for around five years or more? Of course, $2000 US dollars is a ton for a Maverick in its condition in Brazil. There currency is about 40% of ours. I have other people down there looking for one and all of them say they are extremely rare. Once reason I'm skeptical of this particular car is that the photos are identical to the old ones I have, and when money transfers start getting weird, that's a pretty sure sign of a rip-off. Any decent seller down there can register with PayPal and PayPal will convert the funds for them. Easy transaction. If the seller won't do so, bad sign. I used to have an excellent relationship with a guy from Brazil who lived here in the States for awhile. He let me know in no uncertain terms that many Brazilians (not all I'm sure, so don't slam me) think Americans are "suckers" and "easy targets" for ripoffs. Of the two biggest ripoffs I've ever experienced through eBay, one was in Brazil. So you have to be very careful dealing with someone down there. I have been lucky enough to get back some of their special parts. I have some of their factory tachs, factory consols, an NOS factory GT steering wheel, an NOS GT front grill medallion, a GT dash emblem, some of the 79 model taillights, a 200kph speedo gauge cluster, and a glove compartment door (in-dash). Eventually I'll get one of these station wagons back here, but I've been working on it for literally 10+ years. I have some Brazilian magazine articles where they road tested them when they were new. One includes photos of the conversion in-process. It doesn't worry me that they are not factory. If you had a GOOD shop convert one here in the US, you'd never get it done as well for the money a Brazilian one should cost, even with shipping. As for the 4 cylinder motors, I believe they were of Jeep origin. I don't believe they were Ford sourced or related to the Pinto 2.3L at all. Have you noticed the 4-cyl's cars have an emblem on the fender that says "Maverick 4" ? And the 4-cyl GT's had stripes that said "2.3L" ? My goal if I get one is to use all of the Brazilian GT parts I've been gathering up on it. It would look like their GT, only a 4-door wagon version. I'd have a crate 5.0L engine with a Paxton supercharger and 5-speed trans, probably use factory US front discs with the Explorer rear discs, lowered all around with 16" or 17" Torque Thrusts. Dark tinted windows; but I can't decide between a bright red or black exterior. I'd use Thunderbird SC power front buckets (which I have already) and have everything inside covered in beige leather. Carpeting would be factory-type beige. I'd use the Brazilian console with clock, the Brazilian tach, 200kph speedo converted to mph, and the GT wheel. All I really need is the car. I have everything else (well, not the motor, trans, and blower). I really appreciate you giving me that shipping company information, Dennis. I could not find one with such a reasonable price. I was getting quotes in the $5000 range and lots of "not sure's." I'm not going to contact them until I'm able to find a wagon I'm comfortable buying, but I'm glad to have it and it's spurring me to be more active in my search. I'll certainly let everyone know if I'm able to get one.
