Ya, I know the alky motors in general are making more power but I am kind of old school and partial to diesels. Tractors don't now or ever did use alcohol. In the early 60's my dad pulled an A C D-17 diesel. At that time turbo's were unheard of pretty much. The trick for us was a small propane tank hidden under the hood. A line from the tank was run to a valve under the seat and then to the air intake tube. It was pretty well hidden but people knew something was going on when it all of a sudden started knocking even more than normal and the smoke turned black as night. Never placed higher than third tho and the prize----- a half a bag of last years Dekalb seed corn:yahoo:Didn't have mechanical sleds then. We pulled what was refered to as a boat, a large piece of flat sheet steel rolled up at the front so it wouldn't dig in. Initial weighting was with large cement blocks. Now the fun part, to increase the weight as you went down the track, volunteers from the crowd would stand spread out along the track and as the "boat" came by they would hop on for the ride. When the pull was finished they would return to their starting position and wait for the boat to come by again. P.S. I have seen a V8 Cat diesel converted to alky that the owner says is making 5000 HP give or take.

This one I was talkin bout is a 180 AC,,,, not too much difference between that ol 17 and the 180's block! There are quite a few d-17-and 19s with chargers on em,,, and yep, they got a LP tank on the side too! Torque toppers they called em back then. We got a 3010 JD diesil that has the LP injection,,,,, good for about a 15 hp shot! If I could have, Id would have taken that half bag of seed corn, planted it for what it was worth, and made whiskey out of it!! Pour it in the gas tank and go to town!

    history blurb:
my 63 Olds Jetfire came with Water/Methanol injection and turbocharged from the factory. It was a little 215 ci all aluminum V8 making 215 hp and 300 ft-lb Tq. The engine ran a super high 10.25 CR with the Turbo, thus needing the water/Meth injection to prevent detonation.

Ive considered trying the Snow system on my 10.3 Cr 331 with my Novi 1200 S/c. First things first tho. :)
