Boy, I'm glad I live in 'Bama and don't have to put up with all that BS. No title for 74 back, just $25 tag fee and .03% motor vehicle sales tax. I always make up a bill of sale for $100 or less that way the tax is small. Don't even have to be notarized in most counties. If you trade even for something, there's no tax due, just the tag fee. Traded a shotgun for a car one time, no tax just had to buy a tag. And only two or three major cities have a smog inspection, no safety inspections at all anywhere in state.
damn and i thought DE was bad when i got my maverick's title switched to my name they charge you a percentage of what its worth(among other fees). so from the KBB they decide its worth $2,000! im trying to tell the lady i paid $200 for it, had a bill of sale and everything, but they go but "actuall value" not what i paid. "you can come look at my car right now and then try to tell me its worth $2000" when all was said and done. title transfer, inspection, new plate and expired tag fee i owed $114, which was a little more than expected. DMV's are so unnecessary, just let people drive what ever kind of polluting bucket they want on the roads DOWN WITH INSPECTIONS
Texas DVM being who they are used the "Average Retail Value" and then multiplied it by 1.5 for a total of $5,475.00 which is more than the "High Retail" value. The NADA printout they gave me sez: Low Retail = $1,600 Average Retail = $3,650 High Retail = $5,275 Remember, this is sight-unseen. I think I can get another "qualified" appraiser to appraise it at $1,000 also. :hope: So, the $450 might not be the actual number now (and no, they do not refund the money). BTW, I'm putting the rear window defogger in today. I'm also going to put some quilting behind the seat to help lower road noise while I'm back there.
No different here in Ontario, and I can't even think of importing a car into the country without a title, and we have to notify U.S. Customs 48 hrs before the car leaves the USA, it can be fun. Good Luck!!
