More HP

    i have a 250 i6 my 76 maverick and i would like to get more horsepower out of it without swapping out the engine. im probably going to get a 4 barrel carb but what else could i do (no superchargers)

    A four Barrel would be overkill. Go with a two. You can swap the timing chain to the earlier one. Also a cam swap. And these engines with the low comp and seven main bearings are perfect for a t3/t4 turbo.

    Wow....you have lots of big plans and ideas!!!

    Patience Grasshopper. In my opinion, MORE horsepower is soooo far down your list of what you need to do....and what you should be doing. Lets get the car running and driving well....and SAFELY. Then we can move on to appearance items. Last on the list, at your age and in your situation, is more horsepower.

    I found out the biggest bang for the buck is swapping one of the advance springs inside the distributor with a Mr. Gasket 925D advance spring and bending the anchor tab 3/32”. The spring can be found at almost any parts store less than $5.00 I have some pictures on my website. http://www.1bad6t.com/Maverick/maverick_27.html

    I agree you need to spend money making it drive safe our cars do not stop like newer cars , It will cost lots of money to get your rust problems fixed .
    Do those first then spend money on go fast stuff .
