I used a magnet type made with the Cougar logo on it on my daily driver '69 conv. It keeps leaves and water out of the cowl while at work. It also stays on at highway speed. I have used it for 3 years so far. Jim
cowl cover for Mustang or Maverick or Comet I make cowl covers out of vinyl coated rubber that work very well for Mustangs 60 thru 65 Comets and Falcons as well as Maverick and 71 thru 77 Comets, They are sold thru Ebay, Many sold with no problems, just follow instruction. Search Ebay under Magnetic cowl cover,
Leaking Cowl Vent As I stated before I covered my vents with fiberglass prior to painting the car. It works great and I am sure the magnetic works also. After the mod I went to a wrecking yard and took the squiters off an Escort then drilled two holes in the hood and installed the squiters and new hoses. I had to use squiters off a Ford because if I put an gm part on a car the engine and tranny would surely fall ut on the ground. gm the American Yugo!!!!!!!!!!! Texasjack
Thanks, did the search on ebay and they have them for Mavs and Comets also now. Just a dumb question but isn't the cowl to get fresh air inside the car for such things as defrost? So you wouldn't want to keep it covered up all the time if you drive your car a lot right?
Yes it is a fresh air vent, but remember that you have not covered up the cowl vent DRAINS. So, you should be pulling air through them which would essentially be from under the fender.
Windshield Nozzles Here is a pict of Escort nozzles on my Mav. I offset them about an inch to provide better cleaning. This is truly a no brainer mod. I agree the vents provide fresh air for defrost but the also provide fresh water for the carpet and floorboards. My defrost works. If it gets bitter cold (below 40) I will not be driving theMav. greenwa1, If you set your air on Max, it just recirculates the cabin air and cools it, no fresh air gets mixed in. I suspect that heater and defrost work the same way.
Knowing I'd get rained on during my trip to Biloxi this last week I preparred the car the best I could. I used a magnetic cowl cover, weather stripped the wipper holes, rtv'd the windsheild drain holes, removed fender and modified drain so that water did not back-flow into the cowl and somehow, I still got soaked. This coming winter, I will be removing my interior and cutting out the underside of the cowl to come up with a patch/filler panel of sort.
