Great Job, Man! I was just a couple of years younger than you are now when my Dad and I went and spent my hard earned $850 for my 72 Comet. I have some wonderful memories of that car and the time I got to spend with him working on it. You've done a wonderful job and it really is refreshing to see someone your age with that kind of drive and work ethic. Keep up the good work!
LOOOK OUT LAKE STEVENS!!! who's that good lookin girl next to ya. That'll be another distraction unless she can help with the mav. Don (oh ya the car is lookin awesome)
Thanks!! Alright! everything is pretty much done! The speed shop is doing some very fine tuning under the car to get everything perfect right now! The motor absolutely screams!!! Couldn't have done it without my dad and our good friends Mike and Cindy! Thankyou so much for coming up and helping :Handshake Heres me just getting on it just a little bit (in a safe place) before I took it to the shop for the final tuning. Talked with the builder a little more this morning, he actually said its making about 430HP and he's never been more then 10 off when he guesses Its tough to get on it at low speeds without it just roasting tire. never thought i'd have to worry much about this... More pics to come of the entire swap later
WOW the roar of the engine sounds very familiar, just like mine , was dad with you ? I can just hear him saying okay Matt thats enough. I will bet you after the shop gets done timing and adjust the carb it will be totally different than the drive to shop. It was a great time helping you and your dad with this project and am really bummed that I had to leave before its first fire up
x2 He is going to have to change the tire soon enough as it doesnt have much left on it before the engine swap Time for the 3.80 gears and some sort of trac loc (still has the 2.79 gears and stock convertor) but after speaking with the engine builder he said that all the cam card said he needed for a convertor was a 2,000 stall so he is not too far off
Mike no worries you were a huge help!!!! :Handshake and thanks guys! Mike you totally called it. its completely tuned in and wow...I can't figure out how to get on it without spinning the tire The guys all at the speed shop drove it and came up to me at different times and said they're remembering the setup on the motor cause they were SO impressed with how responsive it is! :bananaman To hear that from guys that build high HP motors for a living sure got me excited ...If i had rubber left on my tires...well it wouldnt be there for very long... This baby is plenty fast enough for me...
Matt it is only going to get better, engine is still tight. How many rpms have you wound it out to while driving it? Be very careful I have scared myself a few times stomping on it at 40-50 mph and smoking the tires. Now as to that smack talk about whooping me,game on kiddo
Hey, Matterick. I'm new to Maverick's myself. I have a 73 as well and am wanting to change the bumpers out also. Where did you get your bumpers at? I want the smaller ones as well. Did you just get them off a different model Maverick, or what?
Faster? sounds good to me! Not sure on the RPM's...and same..I spin at 40 like its nothing! its scary cause i dont even mean to! as for that whoopin...im gonna need some pointers first on how to get some of the power to move me forward off the line! guess a new tire would be a start. any other slightly more inexpensive things i can do to help it hook? shocks maybe? I like burning rubber but itd be nice if i could launch it and have it hook up sometimes
