My 19 year old son just bought a Maverick. It's a 1977, 4 Door, 302 with factory AC. He paid $350.00 for the car and it runs pretty well suprisingly. He moved up to Washington state...anyway.. I went up there Saturday and was actually pretty impressed with the car. It does need work though. Trans leaks and front suspension seem to be the most critical right now. In your expert opinions should I put $1000 to $1500 in the car for the kid and get it running well for a daily driver. Or should I get the trans leaks fixed and just let it takes it's course?
It sounds crazy but the car seems to have potential. Remember though, He's In WA and I'm in AZ (but I do fly for free when I can get away from work).

Any help is greatly welcomed and appreciated. Oh, one more thing, he wants to be a musician and is always broke so all $$$ comes from me, for the car anyway.

    Thanks

    VF

Trans is supposedly leaking from 4 places?? Pan seal, front pump seal, and both sides? I know a little bit about cars but don't have the equipment to get the car up and look myself, although the couple mechanics I met in Bellingham seem to be pretty honest.

Yea, definately get the front end fixed. Could be a safety hazard depending on how worn out it is.

Howdy and :Welcome: to the sight. I would spend the money and get it fixed. But then, what else would you expect to hear from a Maverick enthusiast? :D

you might send a pm to courier11sec. he lives in bellingham also. if you can get it running and driving decently it should be an inexpensive ride for him to maintain. :) :bananaman

bought my grabber as a second car when i was 18 and newly married, has been my only ride several times over the years. the only time i couldnt rely on it as one was when i chose to take it apart and upgrade stuff. that was 18 years ago, worth every penny.(y)
