My 71 Maverick Grabber Build.....

Finished the adaptor brackets Wednesday morning and got the car up on the rotissorie..... This is going to make working on the under side oh so much easier.....

Here's the adaptors I make to mount it.....

I like the leaf spring shackle adaptors! But, I was thinking of mounting mine using the rear bumper mounts, that way the underside wasn't obstructed by the rotis arms. Do you think the rear mounts aren't strong enough? The car is coming nicely! Great job!

 

There is actually quite a bit of room around the shackle brackets I made..... I you used the rear bumper mounting location it should work fine, I don't believe there would be any strength issue there..... and Thanks

 

By using the bumper mounts as pivot points, did you find that, once you got to about 45 degrees, the car wanted to "take off" with the weight of the roof being so far from the pivot points?

Just wondering since mine wanted to go over fast using the bumper bracket holes.

 

Nice setup on the rotissorie. Those floor pans look gud also. Like u say; with that kind of setup you can really do nice job underbody. Great work for a lot of us to learn from.

door armrest ?

very fun to see pictures of this project ! one question for you ? can you used factory armrest and handle door with your installation ?

 

Just curious, how much have you spent on the entire project so far, and what do you think it will cost for the end result? I am planning on doing this soon...

 

It actually wasn't too bad, but it is a little top heavy..... I probably could lower it a little to get the balance better.....

No the armrest pad will not fit..... and thanks.....

After many years of building projects like this I don't really keep track of what I spend on them..... As a rough guess I would say around $12,000 so far with the new AJE front suspension I just bought, that number also includes alot of parts I have not mentioned here yet like aluminum heads, new painless wiring harness, gauges, center section for the rear and it also includes the original purchase price.....

As far as total cost, your guess is as good as mine..... Just depends on how crazy I get with it, and to tell the truth it will probably be a never ending project like most are.....

 

I got the stuck leaf spring bolt out this morning, went pretty well..... I cut the spring eye open then splint the shell on the bushing and removed it, after that I removed the rubber from the inner sleeve..... Then I was able to put a little heat on the sleeve and was able to get the bolt out without damaging the bolt or any part of the spring mounting area.....

After that I just started scraping off all the heavier grease and sh!t that built up on the underside over the years.....

Not really any thing worth taking a pic of today ao I didn't bother.....

 

Isn't it priceless standing next to the car and working on the undercarriage?

Don't rub it in, I was offered a rotisserie, and turned it down....

 

Let me just say since I just started using one, that was not a good move......

 

A little more progress this morning..... Cleaned up and welded up some seams on the pass underside floor area..... Then disc sanded the pass underside from the top of the tunnel to the rocker panel and from the base of the firewall to the rear shock crossmember..... Still need a little more minor clean up with a wire wheel, but I am going to get the driver underside looking the same first.....
