It's in pretty good shape, it would have been nice to find this one before I started on my Grabber..... It does have a little rust in the bottom of the doors but nothing too bad, and like Mike said in the for sale add the driver side front floor is rusted through right against the rocker but the rest of the floor look to be in excellent shape.....
Yup my grabber had a nickle size hole in the bottom rear quarter panel and thats it... I was pretty fortunate to buy it... Good luck with your build its looking awesome and good for you to not cut up the 72 someone will be happy to own it when its back on the market...
Pulled the trans out of the green donor car yesterday and rebuilt it..... Put it back in this morning, now it runs and moves around..... Next thing is to swap out the gas tank so it's no longer running off a can under the hood.....
INothing done on the 71 again..... Sat I had to help my father out with his 04 Crown Vic..... Sunday I got a little more done on now jr project 72 doner/resale project, put a 19 gal tank in it I got with the car..... I also replaced all the rubber connecting lines after cleaning out all the steel fuel lines and added an inline filter just before the fuel pump just to be safe..... I just need to get a fuel filler pipe to tank seal so I can put the filler pipe in..... The car now runs off the tank, it's getting closer to ready..... Next thing I need to address is the brakes and I should be done fixing things on it, well mabye I'll take a look at the ac..... I did get the rear bumper and valence panel off when doing the tank, let me tell you the rear valence panel is the cleanest one I have ever see(absolutely no dents, dings or repairs)..... This valence is definately going on the 71..... Here's a couple pic's of it..... When I took the old rusty gas tank out I found it had some of the nastyest old gas in it I have ever seen..... Here's a pic of the sender that came out of the tank that will give you an idea how nasty the old gas was, fortunately I still had the old sender out of my 71 which was still good..... I quess driving the car around the block a couple times last week was too much for the old dry rotted tires that were on it, cause 2 of them exploded during the week while the car was just sitting in the shop..... I had a couple pretty good 205/75/14 donated to the car, just need to swap them onto the 4 lug wheels..... I also bought 2 really nice used 185/75/14 which are now on the front of the car..... Here's a pic of one of the poped tires and another really dry rotted one.....
All I got done this past weekend is the brakes on the green car are now working..... Also got the new filler neck grommet in the gas tank.....
Got most of the parts I want off the green car this weekend(just need to get the dash pad off it now)..... The best part is I might have it sold and I don't even have to put all the parts back on for this buyer, here's hoping it happens..... I did put the blue fenders off my Grabber back on it with a few bolts, and boy does it look nice with them..... Here's what it's looking like now.....
Thank you..... Well I haven't heard from the guy who said he wanted the green car as is this week, so I will keep making progress towards getting it ready to sell..... I removed the dash pad and replaced it with the one that was on my Grabber(it has a cap on it)..... Then I finished getting everthing back together and working in the interior..... I also gave the windows a good cleaning inside and out(after sitting 13 + years they needed it badly)..... Next weekend I will work on getting the body cleaned up and primed.....
I had someone else come look at the green car this morning, they leaft a $500 deposit and there bring me $1400 more on Monday evening when they pick it up..... Looks like I will be able to get back to work on the real project next weekend, whoo hoo.....
The green car went to a new home this afternoon..... Finally I will be able to make some progress on the Grabber this weekend.....
Hey Frank, did you paint the whole roof with the POR15 or just small spots? I'm wondering because mine had a vinyl roof and it now has surface rust on 90% of it. What did you do to prime over the POR15? I couldn't tell from your pics if it was POR15 or black primer. Thanks!!
I used POR15 on it first..... Then less then 24 hrs later I used a DA with 150 and put PPG DP60LF blue epoxy primer over it..... I have used it before with no problems as long as the POR15 doesn't cure all the way..... If you are concerned about it you could always used a light coat of POR's wash prime over the POR15, then you can top coat or prime over it with virtually anything.....
Progress was made today for the first time in a while..... Cut the RCI mounting tabs off my front mounted fuel cell, then got the hole cut in the fender apron(just need to make some new mounting tabs for the cell and weld them on it)..... Next I cut a hole in front of the fuel cell hole to mount my breather tank..... I was fortunate that the holes I cut for the cell and breather tank actually eliminated all the rusted thrught metal in the battery tray area, so that one thing I won't have to fix..... I also made the mounting brackets for my trans cooler and got them welded in the car..... Here's some pic's of what I got done today.....
