I'll be right around the corner, my Dad's brother lives in Tampa, right down the street from Busch Gardens, my Dad's sister lives in Valrico, and we'll be staying in Indian Rocks....so you're right in the middle
Small world. My dads brother lives in Tampa too. And my wife and I are going down in a week, actually taking my grandson to Disneyworld. Will be there from the 18th to the 23rd.
The car is looking awesome! Nice seeing someone doing all their work. We use to stay in Indian Shores when we came down to Florida, brother in law use to live in Dunedin. Wish we were going there soon I would stop by and check out the car.
Your gonna be all over the area..... Captian Comet told me you were gonna be in the area and that you guys were going to try and meet up while your here..... It seems amazingly small sometimes..... LMK if you would like to swing by sometime while your here, if you can find the time that is..... Thanks..... Just let me know when you do come down and we could meet up some time..... No biggie.....
I got it masked up this morning, the sprayed with etching primer and finally with chassis coat with texture..... Most of it looks pretty good, but there are a couple spots in the engine compartment the does not look the greatest..... I think I might have gotten to much overlap in a couple spot and it kept absorbing the texture, I will have to wait until it dries completely before I decide what to do with it..... Here it is masked up and etching primer applied..... and here it is painted and textured.....
Stopped b the shop this afternoon after work to see what it looks like after drying overnight..... It actually looks exactly the same as the pic's, and I am goint to have to redo the underhood area because I am not really happy with the way it looks..... I am pretty happy with the rest.....
Frank, What products are you using for this process? Typically it is not recommended to spray a etching primer on anything but bare metal. But, I don't know what products you are using so I am curious. Looking great!
It is POR15 etching primer that is specifically used for putting a top coat over alreay dry POR15 Rust Paint..... The Chassis Paint is also a POR15 product...... The texture helps hide some of the seams in the floor, but it also makes the finish more durable..... I did this on my last car under the hoodand you can literally drop wrenchs on it without chipping or marking..... It's nice when you are constantly working under the hood/changing thing and such..... This will be a street strip car that will be raced and driven.....
No problem..... Started wet sanding today..... Got most of it done today, just need to finish the roof..... After 5hrs of sanding I was done for the day at this point..... I did break through the clear in 1 spot right on an edge, I am going to fix it in the morning after I finish wet sanding the roof..... Unfortunately because I have to address my screw up I will not be able to buff it tomorrow..... Here's what the sides look like after wet sanding with 1500..... Here is the spot where I broke through the clear, there is a little silver streak right on the corner.....
The trick to wet sanding the high edges is to.... Not sand them. Just stay off them completely and let the wheel do the work when you're buffing. Just make sure you only buff the edges lightly with the wheel spinning off of the edge not into it.
Hey Frank, Your car is gonna look so good when you buff it out!! Can't wait to see it all finished, I bet you'll be glad too. Bossed
Id probly blow another couple coats of clear on it, one thin spot means more when you start buffing. Can't wait to see it. Going back together!
