Frank, what kind of coating did you? It looks very very good. Your car is going to better than when it was new in 1971.
It's POR15 Chassis Black..... It's just painted smooth first and then textured using the settings on the gun.....
Your car is a shining example of why I tell everyone who will listen that building/modifying/customizing cars is an art form. Well done. How did you clean up your spray equipment once you were finished with the POR 15? I hear it can be quite problematic if you miss any. John B
Thanks, I just disassemble the gun and clean everything right after use and haven't had any problems yet.....
Started putting the front suspension stuff together and in the car today..... I got grade 8 or ARP stainless hardware to assemble everything this week..... First thing was to modify the spindle for the WIlwood brake brackets..... They are supposed to fit(I think the drag race flat brackets are bolt on, but I have vented rotors and the caliper mounting bracket is 2 piece and hits the spindle..... The first pic is before modification and the 2nd is after..... Next was to get some holes drill throught the export brace/top of tower so the export brac is bolted down directly for more stability..... First is the layout for the extra holes, 2nd shows where the hole goes through all layers on the underside of the tower, and the last show it bolted in place..... Next I assembled the caster/camber plates and installed them..... Here is with the k-member and control arms bolted in place..... The last thing I got done today is to get the spindles bolt back together with the caliper mounting brackets also mounted to them.....
Do you think a Coyote 5.0L would fit in there with the shaved towers? They appear to be 29.5 inches wide...it's hard to find exact specs.
Well today turned into a major fiasco..... The car is sitting on it's own tires for the first time in over 17 month's..... I assembled the struts and installed them..... Then I assembled the brake hubs/rotors and attempted to install them only to find out the inner bearing would not go onto the spindle(turns out the inner bearing diameter on the spindle was the same size as the inside diameter of the bearing so it was a no go)..... So I polished .003 off the inner bearing diameter to get the clearance necessary for the bearing to go on..... Nex problem was after putting the rotors on the pass side rotor retaing bolts just touched the caliper bracket(due to the way the spindle was made, I fixed it by cleaning the raised writing off the top of the bolts and shimming the rotor out) all should be good there now..... Also when trying to install the rotors Wilwood gives you a speical smaller diameter washer to go under the brearing retainer nut, well it was to small of an inside diameter to fit on the spindle(must have been packaged wrong, I took the new standard replacement one I had and reduced the outside diameter to match the Wilwood ones)..... After getting everything together I found out that the lower control arms I got replaced are still too long, even with the camber adjustment all the way out it's still got -2 degrees ao camber(now my next thing will be to shorten them to get the camber within range)..... I had to make a couple minor changes to the tie rod/hiem ends to get toe reasonable(those will need further modification after control arms are shortened)..... Only if you bought things for a specific application that actually fit without modification, yeah right..... I build custom cars for a living now and I run in to it all the time, nothing fits like it's supposed to until you modify it..... Anyways, enough of my rant for today..... Here it is with the struts bolted on..... Here's the rack & pinion bolted up..... Here's with the brakes on..... As stated earlier here it is rolling on it's own supension for the first time in over 17 month's.....
Super sweet!! If it's any consolation, we just put a Torque arm and rear end kit in a 68 Mustang, that was suppose to be "bolt in"..it was far from it....Keep the pic's coming!!
Thanks, it's definately nice to have it rolling again..... It just sucks that I have to pull the control arms off next week, oh well it won't take too long to remedy..... As I said I deal with all kinds off stuff daily and most of it doesn't fit without some kind of modification..... The pic's will flow freely as usual.....
