My 72 Comet Build.....

Rustoleum Harmmered Finish in a quart can..... Most Home Depots and Lowes have it..... I am using black(it looks dark gray when applied due to the silver vein in it)..... I would suggest not getting other brands the claim to do the same thing such as Hammerite Rust Cap(they just don't make the nice even finish like the Rustoleum, the others come out streaky and some of the brush strokes show).....

 

Today I got the drive shaft loop bolted and sealed in..... Then I masked up the front area of the cage and painted the rest of the cage..... I put the car back on the ground but did not have time to clean it and the shop up today, something to look forward too next weekend - happy day......

I don't know if you mentioned it, but which subframe connectors did you use? Those look similar to the chassis engineering SFC's. Thanks

 

They are Chassis Engineering, but I modified them and raised them up into the floor.....

 

Thanks for the quick response. I just noticed your build on the turbo forums (I'm 7d1 comet). The SFC's are exactly what I was looking for. Awesome build. I'll be taking bits and pieces from your build and using them on my GT.

 

Not a whole lot got done this weekend..... I started cleaning the car and shop on Saturday morning, then ended up at the Ford dealership in the afternoon buying a new truck..... Sunday I finished cleaning the shop early..... Then I cleaned the windshield sealer from the underside of the lower lip since the dash is out of the way, what a nasty mess that was..... I also cleaned all the loose paint from around the master cylinder area that was wrinkled up from spilled brake fluid..... Next, I cut the e-brake cable mounting tab off the firewall since it is no longer needed..... Last thing was to weld a scrap piece across the old feed hole for the original fuse box, marked it up, drilled a pilot hole and opened it up to 2" for the new firewall feed connector.....

Here's the underside of the lower windshield lip I cleaned the sealer off.....





Here's the filler piece welded in place, then pilot hole marked and drilled, then opened up with the hole saw, then mounting holes drilled and last is the plug assembly in place.....

Yeah, I bought my 06 F150 new and it had 36,115 miles on it, so with it being worn out and all..... Seriously, I had it for a long time and have been thinking about getting a new one for a while so I talked to a buddy that works at a local Ford dealer and he said there were 7000 in rebates on the new 5.0 F150's right now..... So I went to check one out, they made me a really good offer for my old one so I bought a new 2013 F150 XLT Super Cab with a 5.0/6 speed auto(it is a really nice truck).....

It's a Delphi through panel 22 circuit connector..... It is a sealed bolt together connector that uses weather pack terminals.....

Everything on the car is getting rewired, and with the additions of electric fan - electric water pump - line lock -electric gauges - MSD ignition - and various other electrical components plus the necessary stock lighting wiring, I would rather have a sealed connector like this rather then just stick a bunch of wires through a grommet in the firewall.....
