Haaaay! Thank you very much! Whats up my maverick brother from another mother? Start up a thread and show the world some pics of your own new toy!
I haven't posted in a while but I have been working on the maverick quite a bit. My friend jski brought me an ignition cylinder (that fits my column) the other day so I've been able to test a few circuits to see if our wiring modifications have been done properly. I'm happy to report that everything we did works fine. Unfortunately I do have some problems I need to find and fix. Mostly some of the instrument lights don't work, particularly the ones that illuminate the heater controls. And my blower doesn't work on low speed, maybe the switch? The heater/ Air Cond. plenum is totally restored and back in the car now. The fuel system is totally complete. Up front I ran the fuel line into a tee and have dual holley regulators coming off of the tee. One is for the carb and the other is for the nitrous system. They each have their own "Big End" brand filter. They're not in the pictures but now theres also a gauge for the carb and a gauge for the nitrous. I picked up a pretty nice back seat from a junk yard Saturday morning. I also started working on the T5 and it's completely disassembled. I will be needing a new second gear, 1-2 slider, blocking rings, and seals. Hopefully they won't take too long to get here once I order them. The lower dash is back in the car now. The T5 trans is all back together. I'm going to pick up the adapter from a friend this weekend and then the trans should go in the car. The gas pedal and cable is back in. And the 1980's vintage pioneer supertuner is in and wired and the matching Equalizer is mounted into the consolette. http://robbinsvillehotrods.com/simplemachinesforum/MGalleryItem.php?id=6027 http://robbinsvillehotrods.com/simplemachinesforum/MGalleryItem.php?id=6026 http://robbinsvillehotrods.com/simplemachinesforum/MGalleryItem.php?id=6025
Thanks Jeff. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out. I didn't hesitate too much when decided to modify the consolette because somebody already hacked it up a bit by drilling holes right in the front for switches and they didn't even bother to line them all up and one of the side mounting tabs is broken off. I figured I would make a flat piece of aluminum to cover the whole front where the holes are and drill that to mount my own switches. I dropped the ignition cylinder off at the locksmith this morning to have it re-keyed to my door key.
I started tinkering with making seat adjusters to mount my Jaz racing seats. I have two '72 bench seats which are totally shot and I took the tracks off of both. The tracks from one bench seat will be the drivers seat tracks and the ones from the other bench seat will be for the passenger seat. I located the dimples in the floor pans for the holes for the inner bucket seat tracks and drilled them out. Of course they're the same spacing as the bench seat tracks so that worked out good. Next I used some longer bolts and some steel tubing with a washer on the bottom to make risers for the inner tracks because the floor is lower in that area. Now I have both tracks at the exact same height. Next part of the project will be to make brackets to mount the Jaz seats to the tracks. I think we have it figured out and I will need to get some aluminum angle (to save weight). I will have to use two pieces on each side of each seat. One piece will mount to the track and the other will bolt to the bottom of the seat. Then the two will bolt together once I'm happy with the angle the seats are sitting in the car. It's pretty simple actually and practically free except for buying the aluminum angle.
If you can document that with some pics, I am sure some folks would love to see that posted as a tech article. This subject comes up so much, and I especially like the fact that you are recycling the bench seat tracks.
I would love to do that but I'm getting a little discouraged with the whole picture attachment thing.....
