My '72 Grabber build thread

    I plan on putting alot of hours in on the maverick this weekend. My goal is to finish welding those little braces on and completely strip the rest of the body this weekend. Hey didn't you tell me you had some mav parts? Give me a call now that you have my number.

    yeah i'll give you a call tomorrow after work. mainly stuff i've taken off since i don't need it to go straight, but anything you need just lemme know if i have it its yours. not doing me any good in my basement haha.

    On Saturday I got both quarter panels, tail light panel and the drivers door stripped and began working on the roof by removing the vinly top glue with a 8" disc sander. Today I sandblasted the roof, trunk jamb, upper door openings, and around the quarter windows. Then I put a couple of coats of epoxy primer on the areas I sandblasted. The roof still needs body work but the sandblasted areas needed to be sealed to prevent rust of the bare metal.

    Can't wait to get it done! If I can get this car painted at least by thanksgiving I will be very happy. Then I can spend the rest of the winter putting it back together and getting it the way I want it.

    I took the heads off to change over to a set of ones that are rebuilt and ported with screw in studs. Found some bad news though. Two pistons are melted! Yup, the top edges are melted and the aluminum has been re-deposited onto the top of the pistons. Not letting the engine problems slow me down though! Last night I got the headers fitted in the car. Took a while and had to make some dents in some tubes and grind the edges of the steering box a little. Today I sandblasted the doors. I did the interior, window frames and the jambs. The outside skin was already stripped by machine. Once everything was blasted I gave it all a coat of epoxy primer. Here are some pics. The picture of the piston shows the damage at about 7:00 where the edge is melted away. My camera never focuses properly on close ups. The next ones show the doors all sandblasted and bare.

    How did the texture on the inner door panel hold up to the sand blasting? I've never pulled the pins to remove the doors. :)

    See if your camera has that little icon that looks like a flower. That is for close up work - something called macros - need to turn them on and you will see that the automatic focus will now find that piston. :)
